What do you think is better?
Oh god someone lock this now!
this is gonna turn out to be the biggest flame/biased thread ever
Yep when I saw the thread I thought here comes a Slicks VS Matra again...
Generally European cars are better, but i'd prefer a Corvette to A Skoda Fabia ey?
Don't get me wrong, I like Skoda's, but Corvettes are...better.
American cars are better on American roads.
European cars are better on European roads.
"Foreign" suppliers try to modify there platform to match the "market needs".
For some it works for some it doesn't.
NOW comes the personal opinion bit - it's easier to take a good handling car and make it softer than it is to go the other way. So more "Foreign" cars are accepted in the US market than US cars are outside. It's harder to make a small engine acceptable for long tedious journeys. So more "foreign" cars AREN"T accepted in the US market than US care are outside.
As it's CARS you're asking about then it cannot be answered :)
If you SPECIFY WHICH CARS then it can be !!
yes, please KILL THIS THREAD. its a good idea, but the resulting arguments.......
yeh!!!!!american cars rox!!!!!!!(puts flame suit on).
maybe you should've put asian cars 2(mostly japanese.....but oh well).
like matra said....
American cars are better on American roads.
European cars are better on European roads.
yeah.....depends on what roads, what cars. every day cars? or sports cars? what price ranges?
Thats easy, European cars. Who else can get a car up to 200+ mph in an unmodded flat or slant 6...
Plus, "All Roads Lead to Rome..."
Plus, "All Roads Lead to Rome..."
The A46 doesn't...
euopean cars i like alot more i just think they have more sexy coupes and amazing handling but american cars are nice to don't get me wrong

I agree this isnt a comparing matter unless u specify which cars!!
European Cars are better because they aren't the size of houses and do more than 1mpg :p
exactly what i was afraid of......stupid stereotypes against american cars, on a thread with no criteria.........shut it down now, this is stupid. all we will see is "european cars are too small to be safe!" and "american cars are the size of houses!". this is STUPID!!!! this thread is just going to be a magnet for bias stereotypes, unless a mod gives a criteria for this comparison! make it for sports cars or something!
European Cars are better because they aren't the size of houses and do more than 1mpg :p
Thats ironic...
Bently, RR, BMW (7 series), some Mercedes, Maybach, just to name a few off the top of my head...
And generally our high power performance cars get significantly better MPG than europeans.
And its not like european companies dont make SUVs...

Maybe this thread can be used to clear up many of those stereotypes.
thats true. the cayenne is pretty dam big too.

Range Rover ?
Rolls Royce ??
Maybach ???
Oh, we can do planet-polluters as good as the Americans :(
That's why the poll is pointless :)
They both suck j/k's:p
Aussie's Rules!!!!:D
:p i was only having a laugh i know there are a lot of good American cars really, i just prefer European ones.
I love american muscle cars. I love the 1967 shelby cobra too, but that was a european body design by A/C, I think in the 30's and 40's a lot of what the european designs and features showed up on american cars of that era. I still say ultimatley i prefer older american cars. Thats a tuff one though.
CdocZ and Slicks win the award for "Leaping instantly to the defense of their country when someone makes a slight tongue in cheek comment".
This thread is kinda vague, but as I thought about it, I got to thinking about all the "new" cars I would like to own. European cars outnumber the American cars on my "to get" list.
I say new cars cuz if I start to consider older and even classic cars from the US and Europe, I'll never even finish the damn list :)

ys i would also take an Lotus elise over a chevrolet cavalier.
do you see how ridculous that coment was?

 ucp's Sarcastic man strikes again

I guess marte should get it to since he defended a false comment?
I would have done the same if it were any other cars...
It just gets a bit tedious whenever someone makes a comment aboutt Americans in goood humour and any American contingent immediately step up with:
"How dare you, you don't know anything, fart fart fart, quack quack quack, etc"
Not so much here, but many other places on the internet. Quite pathetic really that some people just can't take a joke, and then everyone gets all arsey with each other, and then the arguments ensue.
America: Lighten up, it is ok to poke fun, and be poked at sometimes!

Oh please, personally I couldnt tell he was joking (over exhadurating, yes, joking no). And Im sure alot of people (especially Americans being that we are not familiar with this "tounge in cheek" humor) understand that its a joke. Im sure if someone went to the euro section and said british cars are heavy and cant handle the kid would probably get banned.
It isn't my fault you can't tell a joke from a tin of tuna. Maybe you should learn to.
but amrcan cars ARE HEAVY and cant handle when british cars are not. german cars are in between.
but amrcan cars ARE HEAVY and cant handle when british cars are not. german cars are in between.
like matra said, depends on the roads. european roads, american cars will have to go incredibly slowly because of their size for some, and some physics matra knows, but i forget at the moment. BUT, on american roads, european cars are crabmeat against things like the viper and vette.
there was a huuuuge discussion about this, it was one of the matra vs slicks things. ask matra, he knows more about the physics aspect then i do.
but amrcan cars ARE HEAVY and cant handle when british cars are not. german cars are in between.
I rest my case... Is that a joke I cant tell? if its not a joke its sad you think that.
[QUOTE=CdocZBUT, on american roads, european cars are crabmeat against things like the viper and vette.

On american roads everybody is limited to 75 mph. :D

Here we have 110kph but we do test it:p
I rest my case... Is that a joke I cant tell? if its not a joke its sad you think that.
it is not a joke.
i dont see how it is sad.
it is wellknown that amirican cars are bigger than anywhere else,
bigger size =bigger weight, its not rocket science
and european cars are lighter because they are smaller, therefore less weight.they also have stiffer chassis and stiffer suspensions because they drive in roads where they need those things. american cars do not, and are therefore not better better handelling cars than europeans....
tell me how it is sad...
Not all American cars are heavy, for example the new Corvette z06 weighs 3100lbs and carries a 7.0L-500hp (OHV small block V8), and weighs 80lbs less then the F430 which carries a much smaller 4300cc high revver. And the z06 gets an estimated EPA fuel economy mpg of 18city/22highway, much better then f360, 430, F575m, 911 GT2,911Turbo, and ford gt.
In US ,like the previous, the current vette (c6) with the 6.0L 400hp LS2 -supposedly the same as the monaro and vxr doesn't get the gas guzzler tax due to its EPA rating of 23 mpg. And the F360 does have a gas guzzler tax along with the ford gt .
* The "Chevy Small Block" the United Statesian best muscle car motors. Over the HEMI and Ford flathead
F430 weight 3197lbs/1450kg
it is not a joke.

See CoventrySucks, he wasnt joking...
Its sad because it very untrue.
Bigger size doesnt always mean bigger weight, look at materials used.
Lets take a look at performance cars, since it doesnt matter what family sedans weigh.
Corvette C6 3200lbs (claimed one of the stiffest performance chassis)
Porsche 911 (997) 3200lbs (hmm, the corvette is bigger too)
BMW M3 3400lbs
(heh, just for fun) Camaro Z28/SS 3400lbs (much longer then BMW)
Mustang GT/Mach1 3400lbs
Mosler MT900S 2100lbs
Saleen S7 2700-2900lbs
Factory Five GTM Mulsanne -2200lbs
heavy weights
Ferrari 612 4000+lbs
almost all Aston Martins - 3700-4100lbs
Bentlys - 4000+lbs
RR 4000-5000+lbs (probably one of the heaviest production cars made...)
Jaguars 3700-4000+lbs
Im not going to even mention lamborghini...
Obveously not all American cars are "heavy" or heavier than European cars. Typical dumb stereotype...
Hi SLicks, I DO agree with you it is bad to stereotype.
I have to add though that you've "stereotyped" on Eureopan sports cars too.
You KNOW how big the list is of cars that weigh nearly HALF of what you've listed above :)
So for European cars available in the US, you're 100% no debate. As we've gone over before it's a shame that you guys aren't allowed to enjoy "real" sportscars :)
AND in the heavy weights, you seemed to have missed out all the American performance sedans. Coz those arent' "sportcars" :)
I'll investigate why UCP deleted the text, as I'm sure you woudl have retained a balance and intended to list all the American tanks. That danged nasty UCP software, it does that sometimes :)
