That must be because, while I technically live in Barcelona, I'm very often in Quart which is a small village outside Girona, 100km north of Barcelona and in the summer we also have our fair share of insects there. :)

Quart? Is that an anglicization of a Spanish/Basque/Catalan word?
Actually Quart, as in fourth, is written that way in Catalan. Altough I don't know if that is the origin of the name.
I'm calling BS. I may be wrong, but if they're walking around and see an ice crack like this, somebody probably thought to themself, "This would make for one hell of a photo-op and story." I mean.. it's pretty convenient that the picture was taken while the girl is jumping over the crack.
It's the opening of The Day After Tomorrow.
Getting paranoid ? :) :)
If you had been woken up with a crack and wanted to take a picture of it you'd want one of the team to leap it.
They aren't suggesting the photo was taken AS it cracked :)

Wolf, meh...
I've met plenty of huntsman spiders digger than my hand span (~25cm)
Yea, our house (in the hills above Perth) used to have craploads of huntsmen (huntsmans?) in it. They were great.

If that thing was near me, I'd kill it with whatever would be near me. Or burn it. Seriously, spiders are the ugliest creatures next to sharks.
sharks aren't ugly..

Their mouths are. I have a friend who knows pratically EVERYTHING on them.
For example, for defense measures, they roll their eye balls into the back of their head. And their teeth are like an assembly line. One they lose the tooth, another will grow back, progressively.
We get huntsman spiders in the house every now and then. I usually try to pick them up on the fuzzy end of a feather duster and put them outside. If they're fairly docile I'll take them outside and drop them at the far end of the garden, but if they're very active I just flick them out the window.......

Your brave. :D
Wolf & huntsman spiders are your friend, leave them be and you'll never need pest control.
All they want to do is eat the other insects in your house.
BTW, Cyco: that's a big one!

They are allways growing, they already have 1 or 2 rows of teeth behind the 'normal' ones ready to take the place of a broken tooth. They have to be one of the most amazing creatures in nature, they also have an amazing imune system wich can even fight off cancer.
