As currently a VW man you probably could've taken a look at CC, if not 3.6 then 2.0T....but I don't think I trust VW enough yet to recommend them....:D
I have been berating my father for years now over his purchase of a VW. The Golf blew its head gasket a few weeks ago at 90 kms... Piece of shit. The interior is falling apart, and overall, it is just crap.
I'd like to see your GTI though, as that is the only current VW I somewhat like. Are you regretting the DCT? I remember you saying something about it recently.

My father is anti VW too. He had owned a VW Golf at one point.
Until it broke down in the middle of the longest suspension bridge.
No more VWs for our family...
That was before I was even born. :D

See I am not at that point yet. But with my fingers and toes crossed I am somewhat unease about it.....right now its still just fun-fun-fun....DSG is still a mixed thing. When it works well in the situation it works well in its brilliant. In those other time you gotta wonder why they can't do it better....
I'll let you know when I am around.

My mates in Seattle have a mkV GTi with DSG, they really like it. It's not given them any issues at all.

Its not really an "issue" per se, its just quirky....its definitely not an automatic the way someone who buys an auto would like. Nor is it really a manual. Its probably better than the single clutch sequential unit out there, but it probably could be better. Most of the quirk is just in the shift logic at low speed maneuvering, and start-stop kind of driving. Same thing right now I think is faced with many new Ford Fiesta/Focus as they also are all DCT now, no more conventional auto.

I didn't notice any low speed driving problems in an S-Tronic equipped Audi A5 Sportback I drove a couple of months ago.
-
Ahh yea, there was some funky low speed stuff going on, but it didn't seem too bad really. Not like reviews of some early single clutch 'boxes made them out to be. I'd still get an H-pattern though.
My father always says that Honda's transmissions are only so-so.
I would love to have a TSX wagon though.
by and large their manual transmissions are fantastic.

Automatic I meant, but yes, their manuals are great, but I haven't learned or driven a manual transmission Honda yet. :(
Some day...

The 5 speed in our '09 Civic has been rubbery/clunky since new, which Hondas have you found good transmissions in, clutch?
-
any integra, the accord euro, CRX, civics EG-EK, and the current civic R.
though i dare say the manual in the jazz is shit, in keeping with the rest of the car.

The new TL arrived tonight. We took a brief spin around the neighbourhood. It is pretty damn nice to have a modern luxury car. It has all the bluetooth shit, XM radio, sunroof, etc. I doubt it will be fun to drive, but it has some nice luxury. Pretty good for my Dad's needs, though I know his dream right now is an R8. It is really quiet, and exceptionally smooth.
I will take some pictures early next week as I will be gone this weekend, and if I get a chance to drive it I will report back.
