People's been frying their video cards also.
I've been seeing a bit around the forums about this. Is it all fixed by that additions to the variables.txt (frameratecap/glue etc)
I didn't start with that and I'm wondeirng if that killed my card?
No issues with it before SC2...
-
Depends I think, for some it did for others maybe not. I've been running Vsync by habit in most games anyway(MW2, GTR2/rFactor...etc)anyway so it refreshes at my screen's res(60hz/60fps) regardless, but before I still have crashes.
-
I'm probably going to get a gtx 460. I was kind of looking anyway. This has forced my hand!
I need a new PSU though, only one PCI-E connector on my current one.
This is turning out to be one expensive game to play!
-
I blame poor coding...lol
It looks nice, but its no Crysis, and nor it should be, but it taxes the system wierdly....
I am just glad I can play it now, or else it would have been $60 wasted...

It does seem a little resource heavy for a top down game.. especially since Blizzard were usually so good in making sure their games would run on most hardware. Maybe the default settings are a little too ambitious. Mine defaulted to Ultra.. everything at max at 1920x1200. But then... my rig seems to have coped with that just fine.
Q6600
4GB RAM (single channel.. it crashes when I try in dual channel..)
ATi 4870x2 (two GPUs, one card) 2GB
850W PSU... etc.
Nothing special.. it's approaching two years old now.
People have been building computers for years. Where have you been?

Yep. I had 0 experience building computers and I put mine together in 2 days without a hitch. Just man up and do it.
That isn't the problem.
I have no interest in spending a fat wad of money on a machine that I won't use to play games.
I used to love video games. That time is passed.

I've got a Q6600, 4GB RAM and an ex 8800GTS 320mb.
It started OK then had a couple of slowdowns.
Then it moved to little artifacts, then the final BSOD.
Mine defaulted to high on most things at 1680*1050.
When I eventually order my new card I'm a bit loath to try SC2 again...

My Computer is Q6600 also, running at 3Ghz, 4GB RAM with 2 9600 GT 512MB running SLI. The game defaults to Ultra, but I've been running at High but turning shader related stuff down to Medium or Low....
A lot of people have problem with 3D portrait, so I've been running 2D by default...

It might be helping me that it's currently winter here, so it's probably just slightly cooler ambiently.

Just played this through in about 3 days. Little disapointed at the lack of Zerg playability in the campaign but that aside incredibly addictive, played on full graphics levels with no hassles or issues.
-
This is just the first of three Starcraft 2s. The next one will focus on Zerg and apparently be more RPG like, and the third will be Protoss and focus on diplomacy. Of course, you won't see the next one until next year some time, and who knows when for the Protoss one.

Yeesh.. I think my APM is about 12.
Yeah I think they released this too soon, or didn't show enough. I mean so far it looks like they just made the Protoss uber-powered and have been neglecting the Terran and Zerg. I know they aren't finished, but that means that they have a looong way to go if they only have a few Protoss units ready.....
I also think so
