Mystery Car

Hi,
I just joined this site and it looks pretty good.
I am hoping someone might have an idea what kind of car I have. It was found in a field in Argentina a few years ago and finally made it to my drie way. Any help would be appreciated. It resembles the Aston Martin DBR-1
except it has a roof. Any Odeas???
Thanks
H

I come from a land down under, Where beer does flow and men chunder
definite aston martin look on the front intake looks a bit later than a DB-1, have a look around the site there's sections on race cars there, and post in the Euro cars section as well

And welcome to the wonderful world of UCP

No... You don't get it! If you want everyone to guess what your mystery car is, you have to post vague and contradicting descriptions with no pictures! So we can get confused, irritated and amused by animal pictures! Bah...

But actually looking at the pic I'd go with the Aston Martn theory by that side vent. Just not a clue which one. Have you been through all of the Classic Car slideshows on the main site? I think almost every car under the sun has been on there at some point.

It's an A-M DBR2 race. http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/frame...um=1&carnum=18

Thanks, but I doubt it.
If it was it would be worth a fortune, I'm not that lucky.

Doubt what, that it's a DBR2 body ?
It is CHECK out the pictures !!!!!! Perfect match.
So either it's real or someone went to a LOT of troubel to get a hand-made body to match it.
I'm presuing it's stell body ? IF it's fiberglass then OK, it's a fake and has been copied.

So suggest you contact A-M and ask them how to identify the DBR2 - they'll say where VIN and body pressing stamps are.
You've got a "find"

Get the engine number and number and names off any castings - ie the brakes, hubs, susnpension arms and rear diff. All help to ID a car.

Thre were a LOT of Argentinian "playboys" and racing drivers in the 60s

The back end looks more DBR1, seems like a weird hybrid of the DBR1 and DBR2, with a roofline penned from the DB3S

Hugh sent me some more pics of this car and it seems to have a V8 engine, so I'm guessing it is some sort of home built car inspired by the DBR1/2 or a heavily modified Aston. In Anthony Pritchard's book on racing Astons, there is no mention of a modified DBR1/2 however. All seven cars constructed seem to remain with bodies identical to the original.

I you look at the way the rear wheels are tugged in it may rather be a special based on a VW Beetle platform.
