My E30 Racecar

Me and my dad are building a racecar for use in tarmac rally and some circuit work. The car is a bmw e30 323i, however the engine is going to be a 2.7 'eta' bottom end with a 325i head with a fair bit of work done to it. the brakes are e36 m3 rotors with vt commodore slideing calipers (we first planned to use nissan 300zx 4 piston jobbies but due to wheel offsets we had to go wiht the slides) one of the major mods to the car is a 5 stud conversion using e46 3 series bits. at the moment the car is getting the rollcage made up. below are some pics and i'll keep everyone up to date as things happen.

should be cool, why is the car on its side in that photo?
also two suggestions, consider better brakes, Holden aren't reknown for their brakes, and resize your photos smaller when you attach them.

the car is on its side so we could clean underneath it as we would be working under there it made sense to work on a clean car. Secondly the guy who is building the car assures us that the brakes will be adequete for our light e30 and if you see the brakes in real life they are pretty big, the photo does not do them justice.

What are you doing suspension wise ?
Any geometry changes ?
What spring rate and dampers are you planning to run ??
Is it for pure track race/sprint ? Any hillclimb ??
PS: pic size is great for me, lots of detail and big enough to fill my monitor

To be a full-spec rally car, it will sonner or later need an Egg-nog kit.

That reminds me we still have to find a system for paddle-shifters.

i will find out this weekend about all of these things when i go and do some more work on it, i do know that we are running bilstein b8 dampers and an arrangment where there are two springs mounted per damper, this arrangment works much like variable rate springs.
the car will be road registerable, however we will have it on S.I (Special Interest) plates. we will use the car in tarmac rallys such as Rallye Tas, we will also compete in a local race series known as the octagon series, last but not least we will use the car for club events (mainly bmw car club of tasmania) and any hill climbs that run as there are many good roads in Tassie.

i reckon, with the 2.7 litre engine and a bit of work done to the head it should have more than enough torque for thr light e30 body.

should be HEAPS of fun
