2005 Belgian F1 GP

Well, Sunday could well be the day that Fernando Alonso is crowned as the youngest champion in F1 history. It would take a minor miracle for Raikkonen to win the title in the remaining races anyway, but I'm sure FA would rather win it sooner than later. It was at this race last year that Schumacher was crowned WDC, but the winner that day was of course Kimi Raikkonen, and he seems to be the strong favourite again this year (reliability permitting of course! ).

The first day's testing was almost a complete washout. While Raikkonen did set the fastest time of the day it was in a session where nobody ventured out for more than 10 laps anyway. And the second session was a non-event after Tonio Liuzzi aquaplaned under braking into Les Combes and binned it into the barriers. Nobody else bothered braving the conditions after that. Shame really as it was reportedly the busiest Friday in the GP's history, so many thousand fans were left disappointed.

McLaren's reliabilty gremlins have already surfaced this weekend with Juan Pablo Montoya needing an engine change. Thankfully for them the problem was detected during the pre-session diagnostic checks and JPM hadn't actually driven the car, meaning he escapes the 10-place grid penalty.

McLaren seem to be the only team being talked about in the pitlane at the moment. The biggest and most bizarre rumour flying round is that Kimi has been issued with a formal written warning about his conduct away from the circuit....

There are reports coming out of Spa suggesting that Kimi Raikkonen is in serious trouble at McLaren, and has, according to sources, been given a written warning by team boss, Ron Dennis.

The warning follows alleged incident during a recent test at Monza, and is understood to involve the Finn being discovered half-naked in someone's front garden.

To further anger Dennis, the story has now been 'leaked' to the mainstream media.

If true, this is the latest in a number of incidents, which for the most part Dennis has attempted to ignore, refusing to interfere in his drivers' private lives.

However, if the Finn has been given a written warning it indicates that perhaps the team is finally losing patience.
Good ol' Kimi! Coulthard might be trying to portray himself as a self-styled 'bad boy' of modern F1, but he's got a LONG way to go to match the antics of the Flying (and occasionally stumbling and falling over in a drunken haze) Finn!

That's if we get a race
It's been raining constantly and there are rumours that we might not even get a start.
Fingers crossed.. be a shame to miss one of the last true F1 circuits..
