Caravelle Formula Junior
This car was designed by Richard Utley, with the original intention to put in a Fiat engine, but later returning to conventional wisdom, by putting in a Ford 105E Kent engine. It saw some very respectable finishes in the 1960 season, driven by Bob Hicks, but in 1961 the “home-based” team was unable to compete with the factory backed teams and folded. The Caravelle lives on, and here it shown at the Silverstone Historics, still being maintained and now also driven by Richard Utley, 45 years after its design. These are the things that make visits to historic races so rewarding. Richard Utley is seen on the fourth pic, bending over his pride and joy.

To that I can add that Bob Hicks and his family are very nice and friendly persons. On the last 2 photos (the last is awful) you can see him humbly having lunch at the side of his creation. He and family were about to take over and interrupting their lunch so I could take a nice pic of the car. I replied him I wanted the pic that way, because I though it showed more of the interest of the paddock.
 I found it funny to see that he only took a Fiat Dobló with bags and tools and a small trailer to push the car. No supporting staff, no motor home, nothing. (I don't know how his family got there) Just he and his Mrs. enjoying a trip across europe to a race. I wish I could enjoy my elderness like that.  However, who drove the car that weekend was his son, James Hicks. The Caravelle on my pics is the MKIII version.

During last weekend at the Monaco Historic F1 two of the three Caravelles ever constructed made their appearance, the Mk1 driven by Richard Utley (shown in post#2) while Mk3 was driven by Ron Hicks' son James.
Caravelle Mk2 is technically finished, but there is a frantic search going on for a suitable body... New pics will follow after the completion of the Monaco report.
