for now, jsut watch, if the V8s don't get up there then I predict FIA/FOM will reduce the restrictor.

If I was a V8 builder at the mometn I'd be putting out lower power engines KNWOING they coudl go more jsut to lull them into making that change -- and then win a few races

Well, that seems to have been the case to start with, especially in the first couple of weeks of testing. But now the V8s are seeming to get closer and today Jacques Villeneuve was quicker in the Beemer V8. (Perhaps after 15 months back in F1 JV is finally beginning to get to grips with the newer cars! )

It's always so difficult to make any real sense of the pre-season test times, and especially so these last couple of seasons. Aswell as the usual raft of technical changes (aero last year, engine this) they are having for the second year running to adapt to a whole new set of tyre regulations. Plus of course a number of teams have defected from Michelin to Bridgestone which means they'll be getting used to a whole new kind of tyre/tyre construction aswell. I try not to take much attention of the testing times until at least the end of January/beginning of February. By then most of the teams will have launched their new cars properly and will be really gearing up for the new season big-time.

One thing that did really catch my attention though: on 7/12/05 Narain Karthikeyan was the fastest Williams driver!
Impressive considering it was his first ever outing in a Williams.
