Melbourne GP Organisers Grasping at straws

Was flicking through my usual web haunts and found this little gem at GP.com, it appears that the Melbourne organisers are going to run the FIM Sidecars at Albert Park to fill the gap left by the withdrawal of the V8 Supercars. I don't know what you guys reckon but personally I think that is an insane idea. I just hope noone gets hurt.

Hmm, seems peculiar. Out of all the alternatives, its a pity the guys trying to run the Formula 5000 event couldnt get it all sorted out.

I'd imagine though sidecars will hardly fill the gap. Which makes it a pity that theres going to be such a high risk with the concrete lined nature of Albert Park.

To be honest Im amazed they could get through insurance etc. Thatd have to be one of the craziest places to run a sidey and yeah, no wayyyyy would I get on one on a street course.

Sidecars on the Isle of Man TT are amazing to watch.
Much higher speeds than any street track too.
So don't see the problem - other than the size of the grid, which does make it more dangerous. But at least hte passenger doesn't have to worry about his/her head gettign taken off by railings or bridge parapets
