Montoya gets first penalty

Quote:
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Juan Pablo Montoya got his first glimpse of NASCAR's heavy hand when the first-year driver was fined $10,000 for making an obscene gesture on live television.

Montoya raised his middle finger to the camera mounted inside his car after a practice session two races ago in Phoenix. He said the gesture was a joke with the TV crew that had been following him the past month for an ABC News special.

Your spelling is awful.

What's funny is that John Cleland did that in BTCC final in 1992 but no one seemed to notice. Oh well... Montoya needs to learn that 90% of the American media and people are prudes who are afraid of homosexuals and defying the bible.

I don't think I have seen two post of such high quality back to back on the forums yet. Congratulations.

I actually think what Montoya did was funny, assuming it was done as a joke. Otherwise, shame on him.

yes, definately a quality post considering the popularity of shows like queer eye for the straight guy, will and grace, real world (almost always has at least one homosexual on it), ellen degeneres, rosie odonald, queer as folk, ect...

You are an idiot. There are plenty of Americans who are not by any means afraid of homosexuals, or defying the bible. I'm not sure where you receive your information from but please stop acting as if you speak for the entire American population.

He's going for first! (4:05)

Those were the days, nothing even close to that now.

He may not have voiced it very well, but he has a point.

You can watch the charred corpses of butchered villagers in Sudan, or the blood-stained crater of a car bomb on the news, but you can't swear, and Janet Jackson's covered nipple causes the biggest media frenzy since 9/11.

It's not quite that bad over here; so long as you don't say **** you can swear as much as you like, and Channel 5 would probably do an hour long documentary on Janet Jackson's nipple give half a chance.

Montoya just seems to stir up controversy wherever he goes. I don't really have a problem with it, I believe all sports need controversial lunatics to keep it a bit more exciting outside of the playing field/arena/track/etc. What he did was stupid, but he got fined for it and we can put it to rest.

Personally I would say that there are things Tony Stewart has done that are worse.

That is proper racing. As you say it's unfortunate we don't make that sort of action anymore...

All the way back to Harvey Smith in 1971.

Celibrating his second win ---- or having argued with the judges earlier that day telling them exactly what he thought of them

"doing a Harvey" was a common term for the two finger salute for quite a few years backj then

WTF does that have to do with being afraid of homosexuals and defying the bible?

Nothing directly, but it's further expressing kingofthering's badly made point. American news media is full of violence and complete morons, but someone flipping the brid is just completely horrendous.

This thread is worthless without video so here you go...

You be the judge: is that someone just messing around or furious about something.

The $10.000 fine is peanuts, but the december 31 probation could become a burden in the future.

NASCAR officials seem a little tight assed if you ask me. Imagine the amount of people in probation every year in F1, not to mention every other series in the world.

ORLY?

The uproar over whether or not Spongebob- a cartoon character, was gay

Janet Jackson's nipple(yes we all have one)

That lesbian couple featured on that children's TV show

I just wanted to show that 99% of the media are prudes and that most of the Americans are still conservative. So flippin' the bird is like walking out naked- shocks a huge amount of people who still think Toyota built planes that attacked Pearl Harbor.

Check autoblog, heck even a famous race car driver mentioned that Toyota "attacked" Pearl Harbor, despite evidence that they only built trucks for them.

Sorry if I offended you or anybody. I'm somehow stuck in idiot mode.
