Ramblings of Ferrari GT1 in 2009
At least JMB think so.
"Our projects are moving forward at this time to a big comeback in GT1 class, via the official programme Ferrari for the 2009 season." Translated version of http://www.endurance-series.com/lms/articles/jmb.html |

Can we assume this car will be based on the 599 GTB?

I'd like to assume that it is. I certainly hope its not based on a 612.

I scrounged up some more info. One poster seems to think that Michelotto will build it for Ferrari. Pinched this from another forum. Happened to spot UCP's own Zytek Fan there as well - if it is the same person.
New regs for GT1/GT2 cars: "The GT1 category will be reserved for models with engines above 5.5L. The manufacturers or tuners will be able to choose between homologation at 650bhp/1300kg or 600bhp/1250kg. The GT2 category will be reserved for cars with engines under 5.0L. The manufacturers or tuners will be able to choose between homologation at 500bhp/1250kg or 450bhp/1200kg. For cars with engines between 5.0L and 5.5L, the manufacturers or tuners will be able to choose homologation in either GT1 or GT2." EDIT: Also found FPV Gotho Last edited by Kitdy; 01-09-2008 at 12:04 AM.. |

some (many) people think GT1 is dying because of the additional costs compared to GT2, which are partly related to the additional degrees of improvements allowed for GT1 cars. I personally would be very surprised if JMB came up with a Fiorano based car. This year in LMS GT2 they fielded an F430, which was about the slowest car of the field.

Secondly you are mixing up the current GT1 regulations with the upcoming, 2009 regulations as announced by FIA GT supremo Stephane Ratel. Here the distinction between GT1 and GT2 will be made on displacement, not on the level of development allowed. It is, however, still uncertain whether these regulations will be implemented. The manufacturers are more interested in promoting the current GT2 to GT1, much the same as was done in the late 1990s.

remember that in 2010 the LMP will be more GT1'ish, so could this be an return to Le Mans?

Again there is little certainty about the P1 regulations. The ACO have indicated what they want, but in the most widely interpretable fashion. The Ferrari will be a GT, not an LMP.

Yeah i know, but if the ACO, choose to make the rules so the car will be like the Mercedes CLK GTR, Nissan 390Gt1 and Porsche Gt1!, then the step from a normal Gt1 to the Lm-Gt1 wouldn't be that big!

Not really. The FXX is a still evolving program. The MC12 is a done deal, unless they modify it continually still also. So, the FXXs could probably be faster than the MC12s.

I'd love to see a 599 GTB at 24 Hours Nürburgring, driven to and from the race like the Aston Martin N24. |

But the Enzo is out of production and the FXX isn't a road car so it probably won't be it. The 599 seems the most likely candidate.
