Lada to enter WTCC?
I think it should still be considered 'rumors', but some info is known up to the moment. I found a thread on this subject at Auto Sport (Russian autosport magazine) forum.
Guys say that the money are already into the project (seems like from GM mostly - remember GM and VAZ common business, but with the help of 'bussines drivers'). The new car will be prepared by Russian Bears team. Sports director of Russian Bears team, Alexei Grigoriev, previously was a director in LogoVAZ-City team when it raced in Supertourism class in Russia. Speaking about a model, I suppose it should be a Lada 110 or 112, or maybe a new one, Priora (actually a modernized 110 model). We'll see. For me these are interesting news.

Super 1600 is actually a Lada 112, if you didn't mean a Kalina Super 1600, which, I think, is a bit too small for WTCC.
Well, I think it is one of the most possible steps, cause a 110 was popular earlier on Russian tracks, and I mentioned Priora as a new car - it would be logical to advertise it this way, but I guess it won't be ready in short terms. Moreover, Lada Cup in Russia is being held on 1,6-liter Lada 112 car. Last edited by faksta; 02-02-2008 at 05:59 AM. |

Isn't AWD banned in WTCC?

OK, now it's official. Russian Bears Motorsport eneters this year's WTCC starting from Valencia race with two Lada 110 cars with 2-liter engines. To be mentioned, the engine and gearbox are taken from WTCC Lacetti. The car will be driven by Viktor Shapovalov (he entered touring races in Russia and Netherlands) and Jaap van Lagen from Netherlands (2006 Renault Megane Eurocup winner). RBM will spend the whole season in WTCC competing in Independents Cup. The car was in a process of homologation back in the end of February.
Another news for me is that Golden Motors team from Russian touring with a support from Artman Racing wants to enter WTCC this year too on their Honda Accord. Alexander Lvov and Alexander Smetskiy plan to start in five races: Valencia, Brno, Oschersleben, Anderstorp and Monza. They will begin a season starting in STCC in Knutstorp.

It's definitely a fail on styling.
Looks like an old Escort... |

At least they're using parts from the RML developed Lacetti's, which are very good cars.

Well, I hope they'll score some points, though a year before they failed on BMWs...

The attached pictures above refer to the Lada 110 2.0 (21106) with the body kit of the car with the wankel engine. It had participated at russian races.
The car homologated for the WTCC series will be different: ![]() ![]() |

Still, it looks extremely ugly ![]() BTW, tho living in Russia, I never heard of this car running in our series. Can you provide a link to a source which you got the info from? Or were you talking about a wankel car?
