Ryan Newman has won the Daytona 500 for Penske Racing / Dodge. It came down to the final lap between two Dodges and two Toyotas, and it looks to me that Kyle Busch cost Toyota their first Daytona 500 win - Stewart was in the lead on the last lap but moved to block Busch on the low side allowing the two Dodges to pass high and take the flag one two.

Damn it - I really wanted Toyota to win to piss off all the good ol' boys - anyways, they probably should win sometime this season as they have a horsepower advantage - or so the commentators seem to indicate. It just would have been nice to see then win the Daytona 500.

Juan Pablo had a shot at it and was in second place with a few laps to go but dropped back after one of many restarts.

Kyle Busch led most laps in the #18 Gibbs Toyota - around double the laps of the next person.

Jeff Gordon had car trouble and had to park it, Jimmie Johnson got in a crash, and Dario Franchitti was well back all race, maybe he retired, I don't know, I was also on the computer.

My friend's response in MSN to Dodge winning instead of Toyota was thus:

"god bless america"

Hilarious.

The announcers also indicated that a non-American manufacturer in 1954 won a race, I am investigating on Wikipedia. Wiki was of no use, but consulting Google I have learned that a Jaguar XK120 won a race in 1954. Interesting shit.

The last non-american car to win in NASCAR was an MG I believe

Unfortunately NASCAR itself is not. The Daytona 500 may be a prestigious race... but it's still just a boring prestigious race to me.

Haha, kinda. The Monaco Grand Prix isn't boring but yeah, there are not too many overtaking possibilities... It's still one of the best GP to watch for its delightful landscape though.

Oh, almost forgot... there are RIGHT turns too!

The last 30 or so laps were fun to watch, hell, watching Kyle Busch go around the track and switch lanes the whole race was fun to watch.

What happens if qualifying gets rained out?

If it is the first 5 races of the season, the previous season OWNERS points are used:

#1) - Previous season Owner Points [position 1-35][do not have to attempt all the races]
#2) - Race winners from the previous and current season not already in the field
#3) - Past Nextel Cup Champions not in by 1 or 2
#4) - Current season Owner Points [Top 35][not in by rules 1-3]
#5) - Current season race attempts ties broken by current owners points standings [not in by rules 1-4]

Are there any websites with a complete history of NASCAR and high-res (or, at least, just any) photos, better identified (team, car, driver, track)?
