The sprint series race is tonight, may have to get up and watch it. hes grided at the back for that one though as qualy was washed out

And from the back he made it up to third - pretty good.

He definitely is good on the road courses.

True, he did quite well. The road courses do bring out the 'race' skill of drivers at least in Nascar. Shows how drivers like Ambrose, Montoya, Stewart, Gordon, Pruett, etc. all do well in places like Infineon and Watkins Glen.

Fantastic results from Ambrose, it just goes to show that our V8 Supercar drivers are some of the best road Course drivers in the world. Ambrose in the Sprint Cup held off Montoya, at that stage Ambrose having no tires, no brakes and no clutch left (look at his restart speeds).

As for skills, these NASCAR drivers are mostly garbage in road courses but hats off to them for being the best drivers in an oval circuit. Ovals is very difficult to master and uses different skills to that of RC. Your ordinary F1 driver would have trouble being competitive in an oval.

Not really, just that Ambrose is a class driver. When he was here, there were less than half a dozen drivers on his level.

I'd hardly call them garbage. Their big mistake at times is to try and take lines around a circuit like they would still on an oval. Theres plenty of other road course specialists in the field that are also pretty handy on the ovals.

Thats still a very good hit rate considering that Marcos Ambrose beat F1's Kimi Raikkonen to the Formula Ford championship, and from what I gathered Ambrose was also fast compared with Jenson Button but hampered by a totally un-competitive Mygale chassis in French F3 and lack of budget. I would even say that Marcos Ambrose is a far better driver than Webber.

JP Montoya started 25th and finished 4th, Marcos Ambrose started 41 and finished 3rd.

What do you mean beat Kimi to Formula Ford? Kimi started racing seriously at age 18 I believe I heard,so I'd figure Marcos had a bit of a head start on him.

Europeans normally have an easier ride when the championship is in their own back yards, Australians have difficulty funding their campaign and getting sponsorships.
