WRC Catalunya, some surprises
Just finished, in Catalunya, the one but last rallye of the season. Winner Martin, after Loeb had to quit in stage 8 following an oil leak. (a rare technical problem finally eliminating a Xsara). Gronholm second, still no win on tarmac for him, Sainz third in his home rallye and fourth the big surprise Stephane Sarrazin, the former F1 testdriver, now in a 2003 Subaru, relegating 2003 world champion Solberg to 5th place. Is there still hope for Hakkinen?

no . not with Ekstrom around
![]() The current DTM champion Mattias Ekström today proved that he masters rallying impressively well. Ekström entered the Spanish WRC event driving a Group-N Mitsubishi Lancer with Stefan Bergman as his co-driver. Mattias immideately started the rally with a furious pace opeing up a lead of one minute and forty seconds after only four stages. In fact, Mattias won all stages in his class but three during the entire rally. As he crossed the finish line of the last stage the distance was over five minutes down to second place. Earlier this year Ekström won the Swedish WRC event in the Group-N class proving that he can be quick both on snow and tarmac. As reported earlier Ekström is sheduled to test for Skoda´s WRC team later. Next up though for Mattias is the Race Of Champions where he will represent Sweden with Kenny Bräck. Final results Catalunya Group-N 1 Ekström/Bergman Mitsubishi Lancer 4h06.54:4 2 Trivino/Noriega Mitsubishi Lancer +5:15.4 3 Basols/Haro SEAT Leon +8:37.8 4 Fores/Aluju SEAT Leon +9:24.1 5 Font/Munoz Mitsubishi Lancer +10:32.0

Its a shame Loeb has a problem, I was looking forward to see Loeb go all out instead of taking it easy.

I am so glad...
Ford are going to stay in WRC. It would have been such a shame to see them give up when they still have a very competitive car.
