Channel 10 mustn't be covering it as im sure they wouldve mentioned it on RPM already. Maybe you could catch it on Fox Sports, but thats cable. I know ive caught several BTCC, NASCAR etc races on there, but usually never at the start

Wouldn't discount Channel 10 yet. Not sure that any television deals have yet been put in place for the series - but you never know, Channel 10 may yet show it. Certainly I hope free to air TV does show it - though it might be a reason to subscribe to Foxtel if they don't.
Anyway, check out http://www.eurostc.com/2k4/?callpage...Recentnews.asp for all the news on the World Touring Car Championship.

Confirmed manufacturers now are Alfa Romeo (156), BMW (320i), Chevrolet (Lacetti), Ford (Focus), Honda (Accord), Lovely (a Chinese manufacturer with an interest in competing),Peugeot (307) and Seat (Toledo). Wouldn't be surprised if others join in as well.

Chances are good for a round of the series in Australia by 2006 or 2007 - possibily at Phillip Island which indicated an interest in hosting a round.

Super Touring died in Australia once the factory teams pulled out (BMW at the end of 1997, Audi and Volvo at the end of 1999). This coincided with the decline of the BTCC and other championships running Super Touring regulations. Basically, Super Touring got so expensive it self destructed (lessons to learn here for V8 Supercars...) and even the manufacturers could no longer afford it.
Super Touring struggled on for a couple of seasons with privateers, but eventually ended altogether. Paul Morris whipped everyone with his aging BMW during 2000, then withdrew. The Super Tourers now run as part of the Touring Car Challenge series (see http://www.touringcarchallenge.com/), which is open to a wide variety of older cars from the various Australian touring car catagories.

well i guess then for the V8 Supercars, its a relief to see such cash filled teams as 888 even opting to use SBR engines

My apologies, the Chinese manufacturer is the Brilliance Car Company, which plans to run three of its M1 model in the WTCC. Link here: http://www.eurostc.com/2k4/default.a...ews.asp&id=866.
The cars will be raced under the Team China banner.
China is starting to get very interested in motorsport...

This touring car challange looks like a fantastic new series. If we do get a round of the WTCC it might come back in australia if cams dosen't kill it like procar.

Nothing to do with CAMS - it is an FIA series. Also, it is NOT for Super Tourers. Super 2000 cars are much less modified and less high tech than Super Tourers were.
Also, CAMS DIDN'T kill Procar - Procar collapsed due to its main benefactor - Ross Palmer - deciding he'd had enough of throwing money away on it. Procar suffered from a lack of direction in its main catagory - Nations Cup - which simply got too expensive and moved too far away from its original production car based background.

No. The GTP Championship is probably our second main touring car catagory now following the demise of Nations Cup. The GTP cars are probably closest to the Super 2000 cars in pace, but are vastly different in rules and regulations.
Super 2000 is limited to 2.0 litre normally aspirated cars with a variety of modifications.
GTP is for pretty much any production car - including V8s and turbos. Modifications are more limited than Super 2000, the cars are heavier than Super 2000s, but they are also more powerful.

GTP are going to change the rules to between current production specs and international group N. Does that make them more like super 2000 rules.

GTP is looking at changing the rules. They'll still be vastly different to Super 2000s, simply because a greater variety of drivetrains, engine sizes and configurations can be used in GTP. GTP is closer in spirit to the Group A formula of the 1980s.
