    Automotive marketing... at its craziest

    Has anyone seen this yet?

It's a web series Toyota is putting out.. soon..

I thought that it was nuts, but pretty neat, and a wonderful form of advertising that caters to a fairly large audience indeed..

I wanna say I've seen something similar before from a car company, but I can't remember which... Does anyone remember this? (so I know I'm not crazy, haha)

Thought some of ya's might like this, and I figured I'd contribute something with one of my first threads.

    Glad to be on board

    Cheers!

You gotta do what you gotta do to sell some cars. Heck I'm sure this series will get out of hand because they won't know when to stop. And yes that last sentence was a Toyota joke

Toyota has tried LSD, and that was what they experienced!

Like it... but is Toyota's anime-fan target demographic really that large?

Subaru did it first with Studio Gainax.
I'm dropping out to create a company that starts with motorcycles, then cars, and forty years later signs a legendary Brazilian driver who has a public and expensive feud with his French teammate.

They should actually launch the commercials in Europe, as it would remind everybody that the marque is Japanese and build with Japanese perfection. Something that would counter the recent issues with Toyota cars.

My thinking was... That the Anime demographic is large. Not necessarily Toyota/Anime fans. So I'm thinking, if they can win over Anime fans with a series like this, it could prove lucrative.. Just my $0.02

Haha, didn't know you'd be interested in anime.

I think they're really trying to reach out to the Japanese people- they're not interested in cars anymore, mainly just technology and gaming now.

Toyota is not new to weird commercials.

You guys remember the Scion sheep commercials that made absolutely no sense?

It' not just weird like the original poster posted up, it's just downright disturbing.

We had Astroboy and Kimba in the early to mid '60s... I'm sort of a first wave fan of Japanese manga. Underground comix led to Heavy Metal magazine a decade later, so trippy stories and artwork fit right into my sensibilities. The only anime I've watched recently is what's on Adult Swim, like Samurai Champloo and Ghost in the Shell. I enjoyed Akira. Storylines are sometimes incomprehensible, great artwork though.

I think you're right: these are primarily aimed at Japanese youth who appreciate the technology, especially the harmonious enviromental posture. If Toyota clicks with other youth markets with the series it's all good for them.

Don't watch much broadcast TV and DVR everthing to skip commercials, but that Scion ad is pretty twisted. Still, sheeple do deserve slaughter.

Hey csl, if you like Samurai Champloo, you might like Cowboy Bebop. It has a great soundtrack anyway.

^^^ Do watch... it's part of Adult Swim's Saturday lineup, they pick one day for anime to run from midnight to 6AM: [adult swim] : Schedule

For awhile they ran a great spoof on anime themes called Perfect Hair Forever. Stoopid fun. My fave show is Robot Chicken.
