ah hence the Milan license plate, I thought it was a new cherished number

Which passes did you take with it? From Milan it looks like it would have been the Gotthard, unless of course you took the tunnel....

So many posts! You guys are really welcoming. Thanks!

    Right. In chronological order:

Of course it did. About two thirds of the way through the Mont Blanc tunnel it nearly shed its fuel line and started pouring petrol everywhere. The whole trip is here if you fancy reading it. I'll move it to the classic motoring blog at some point (maybe even today while I'm thinking about it):

I have some vids of an Elan of a friend of mine that is just like yours (but in silver) in action. YOu should see that!
Nice! My dad tried to convince my mum to get an MX-5 but she's convinced she wants a "new Beetle" ... ????!! (We're working on her.)

The Sprint is the daddy for sure! The "big valve" and the lighter body. They fetch upwards of £15,000 for a nice one though. Maybe one day. *sigh*

Do you have any more pics of your cars?
    Nice blogg to
I do have more pics. I will post them. And thanks!

Thanks! The Elise is nice too ... I see in your avatar! Supposed to be the truest return to form Lotus have had since the days of the original Elan, in road going terms at least.

Very sadly we have to get British plates on it, and once you de-register the vehicle in Italy you lose the plate. Which is a real shame as that's been the plate since 1971 when it rolled out of the Fiat factory. Nothing we can do about that though. We'll just keep replica plates for shows (you have to send the originals back to the Italian authorities for some bizarre reason!)

We did take the tunnel (as earlier comments mention).

If you're curious, go to http://rp.rac.co.uk/routeplanner.

Go from Town / City - Milan, Italy to UK Postcode - N4 3LP (where we lived at the time)

    Add the following vias:

    Town / City, Courmayeur, Italy
Town / City, Bourg en Bresse, France (lovely place, by the way)
    Town / City, Reims, France
Airport / Station / Ferry port, Calais, France
Airport / Station / Ferry port, Dover, UK
    Town / City, Maidstone, UK

    Select these options:

    Fastest Road
    No Motorway
    Avoid Toll Roads

On the next page, select the second option under Dover and leave all the rest. Click "Go >".

    That's roughly our route.

    *phew*
And that's me done. Hope I didn't miss anyone!

If I had a Elan I'd be dropping the 1760 in.
Maintains the period historic AND ups the power/performance

(not really the 1760, but still a nice animated gif )

Those are some nice cars. Unfortunately I live in a redneck town in Canada where there are very few classic european car nuts (I keep thinking I'm the only one ).

...the closest thing to an Elan I've seen around here is a riced up yellow S2 (I believe that's what it's called, those front-drive cars from the 80's-90's based on some lame Korean car) that belongs to an ex-coworker.

I think I'll probably leave it as it is ... I don't need it to be any faster!

The secret of a Lotus is not speed. It's fun!

Now here goes a scan of an old Classic Cars magazine (march 99) issue that had as it's major article "The 26 most under-valued classics". It had a +2 on the cover. Inside, this is waht they said about it.

Unless you own a Multipla, when the secret becomes leaking roof, comedy diagnostics software and an annoying habit of going into 'safe mode' regardless of car condition.

    Haha! Love the Fiat videos!
    Lovely car.

You're quite right Revo ... a Fiat 500 at 45mph requires a good deal of wrestling with to prevent the cart-style suspension depositing you in the hedge bottom! I feel like someone "driving" in a 1950s black and white movie, the amount of steering wheel action there is!
