    Class of 1960 Racing Legends

Road and Track had a nice article about a photographer who took "yearbook" style photos of many racing greats in 1960. It was never published until now because they didn't print in color back then.

The original photographer approached Road and Track again and now it's been published.

Portraits of Auto Racing Legends - The Class of 1960 Cars

It's very cool to read about them all, especially in retrospect.

that is great stuff. The qualification: "World War II mentality" for Innes Ireland made my smile.
Also the remarks about Graham Hill's plane are both funny and sad.

Nice find. Yeah, I remember JYS talking about Innes and giving similar impression that Innes did things and took risks others avoided !

    Who is JYS?

Sorry I asked, this article is helping me by motivating myself to research racing history.

And a side note, I think the comments about each person were all made by Dan Gurney.

All of them look very good in their photos.

Thanks, from the initials I thought it also might have been John Surtees.

    Yep, that much is obvious.

I doubt the photographer raced BRMs...

I wonder how many other articles were originally shelved for either a percieved lack of ''interest'' and / or technology back in the day?
    Thanks for sharing the link.
