Renault 8 Gordini

Renault 8 Gordini

The Renault 8 was presented in 1962 as the successor to the Dauphine, but the latter was kept in production until 1967. Nevertheless the new 5 bearing engine of the R8 made it a much smoother car to drive. The engine produced 40 BHP and the 1100 version that appeared a little bit later made it to 48 BHP.

The tradition of the Dauphine 1093 was followed with the introduction of the R8 Gordini, initially with the 1108 cc engine but later with 1255 giving 95 BHP. (Like in Alpine A110). This car became an instant hit and recognisable by its double white striping that went off-centre over the whole body. The front was cheered up by introducing two more headlights and most of them were painted in the characteristic French Blue colours.

The successes in motor sport were numerous and the car still has a number of dedicated followers. Many
Here is one on show at the Alpine meet at Zolder in 2004.

Welcome Challe,

Hope you continue to enjoy UCP as much as you have indicated in your many posts on first day. It's not necessary to comment on every neat thing you find though
