I need of a new Nav System! Help!!

I’m so sick of this crappy stock in-dash nav system that came in my wife’s new SUV, it’s a total POS and I need something new. It’s a huge investment so I don’t wanna make a rash decision, are there certain lines that are better than others?

Where are you situated anyway? That could help.

Just curious, but what SUV is it?

From firsthand accounts (family), I heard the Tom Tom is pretty good. I myself have never used one.

The stock nav in our 02 Escalade is pretty good. Which SUV do you have?

Try buying some decent maps. They are fail-proof and never point you into the wrong direction.

If you still insist on a nav system, get a TomTom and sponsor the Dutch economy The viaMichelin ones are pretty good as well.

I am with Drakkie on this...a sound knowledge of geography, a good map, and a sense of direction will allow you to concentrate on the road, and not get distracted by some machine on the dash.

Exactly and they cost much less !!! 3€ for a good map is better spent than 700€ on a ugly piece of plastic

thank you, I have my navigator-exam, so I know how to read a map..

I still have a GPS map plotter in the boat, and I trust it very well.

And of course a map on board for safety issues..

Maps are great but don't most of them show highways and main roads? What if your in the middle of a city and trying to find a specific road? Or your a business man who travels to many cities quite often? Unless you have a lot of very detailed maps your kind of screwed.

Depends on the scale...
there are all sorts of route descriptions available on internet, where you just plot your destination and it will give you the way (basically the same software that supports the inbuild nav systems. Furthermore we have information maps at each of the main entrances to cities and/or villages.

I think Sat-Nav is brilliant in the city. However for long journeys you only need a good map and someone reading it to tell you the cities that are coming and you only have to follow the road signs.

However when went rallying I really learnt to follow maps and road signs. And when you found all the cars you just followed them...

i have heard some great things about this "map" system that you all speak of, seems like it does wonders for people!

the SUV is a Lexus, curse it!

i think that the reason i want an in-dash system is just because of the ease of use, reliability and also all of the cool entertainment, DVD, iPod, etc features that come with some of them like the Pioneer system. we generally take all of our trips in this big car so i don't need a portable system to move around and would prefer the stability and reliability that come with an in-dash model

So you want a totally new car instead of a portable satellite navigation system? Whatever works for you man.

I say TomTom as we have one and it never has taken the wrong way. It also is very easy to use etc.

Bit expensive at the best part of £400 though.
