In the German Touring Car Championships (DTM) the new AMG C-Class ensures exciting motor racing at the highest level, and now its roadgoing sister model is celebrating its debut: the new C 63 AMG. Its AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine develops a peak output of 336 kW/457 hp and a maximum torque of 600 newton metres – unrivalled figures in this segment. Accordingly the C 63 AMG accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds, while its top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h. In conjunction with an all-new front axle, speed-sensitive AMG sports steering and the new, 3-stage ESP Ò, the AMG sports suspension ensures both outstanding driving enjoyment and exemplary handling dynamics. A combination of expressive design, a decidedly sporty interior and a high level of everyday practicality makes the C 63 AMG a unique high-performance car. The market launch will commence in early 2008..............

6.3 litre is a lot. couldnt they mahage the same power from a 5.5 litre using tubo os superchargers? thank god they didnt squish the CL63's V12 in it.

Yes they could, easily. But the 5.5 V8 engine is getting old and is mostly likely just about out of Euro compliance. The 63AMG engine is brand new, with all the lovely new engine tech. Plus, the blown 5.5 engines are known for having so much torque they become a bit of a handful in a car like an E-Class, it'd unruly in a C-Class.

And the CL63 doesn't have a V12, it has the same 6.2ltr V8 as this. The CL65 has a V12.

The new 6.3 is actually very light..lighter than the bmw v10 for example. The engine is designed by a clever new guy who has focused on a larger bore to gain extra capacity, revvability (7200rpm) and torque. This engine (and the newer 3.5 V6) are 4 valves per cylinder unlike the old 5.5 V8 and 3.2 V6. Its a very good engine in y opinion with excelent variable intake manifold design and vallve timing features. It also has a clever friction reducing cylinder liner. And just for fun the engine in some programmes deliberately causes misfires to create a more aggressive V8 sound to contrast its refinement.

Bah. I have a hell of a time finding engine masses (not "weights" - so archaic) online anyways.

Back to the cars. I cannot decide whether I'd have this, an M3 or a RS4. All are so good...

If only such sources where as technically indepth..i get most of my info from journals and technically focused websites like autozine. Professoal engineer is particularly informative.

Still wish Mercedes could fit the car with a proper manual or at least a paddle shifted manual (not an autobox with flaps behind the steering wheel). Still a fantastic car nonetheless.

Duell, you should have resized the images a little bit, you've saved them at the best quality you could but they're still quite bad because the resolution's so high.

That's not the original is it? Too much effort getting the originals myself atm.
I find resizing to 2500 (3000 maximum, if really neccessary) and saving at the highest quality possible gives the best balance between quality and size.
