supercharging the rx8
okay i have a question to whomever wants to help:
I've got an rx8 sittin outside my garage, sorta new, already put ten thousand in two months on the odometer, yay. But I'm wondering... Although it's a beautiful car with a beautiful engine, its got kind of sloppy acceleration. i've done some minor things to the rotory engine, increase intake and such. Small changes have added about 5 horses or so, i wouldnt know. But now I'm thinking, can I supercharge renesis? I dont think mazdaspeed has one available, but if they did, o man. I know I could turbocharge it, but I'm looking for excessive power on the lower rpm range. If I could, should I turbocharge, or supercharge? |

if i was to supercharge it, i'd go with a centrifugal supercharger, i dont know whether the power gains on a roots type would be sufficient enough but they'd cure the low range response i suppose if it didnt hold back the engine too much

Look back at the RX7, after all it is a turbocharged rotary engine and maybe you can get some ideas from it. Although the best way to get an answer for this question is just go to an specialist in cars/turbos and ask him what can be done. I saw in the cover of a magazine about 3-4 months ago a turbocharged RX8 that was hitting 800-900HP I believe it had a T80, but I'm not sure though.
I always think about how cool would it be if they come out with a turbocharged version for the RX8, hitting around 300HP. Get some pics of your car and post it ![]() And if you do this Turbo/Supercharger project PLEASE post pics and if possible a video

if your looking for exesive power down low you might look at a different car than teh RX-8, hell the RX-7 has nothing amazing below 4krpm... with a redline of 9krpm take advantage, i dont know of any companies that have tried porting the renesis but you might look into that, on the 13b-t gains of 50-90hp were found with a simple port, and if you ask me a supercharger(even a centrifugal supercharger) would hinder the motor at higher rpm, if your looking for power out of that motor look into a turbo. but if you want a car that can just melt the wheels from idle you should go to your local chevy/ford dealership

hey guys thanks for the feedback
as of now im still undecided about the whole thing, but i guess i could try supercharging it. But the thing is, i doubt i can find a company which could supply it, whether centrifugal or not. So far I've checked online and havent turned up anything. I've checked with Jackson racing and even skunk2 and they've said as of the moment there isnt an availible supercharger. Somehow I'm not surprised since the car is only about a year and a half old. I've got some pics of the car (aptly named project renesis-- me and my engine ) but they wont be up for awhile, I'm thinking in about a month or two."Try to catch a butterfly and it will fly away, sit still and it will land on your shoulder" -poe |

i'd advise towards turbocharging it....it's been done before, so somebody out there has probably already done it or has looked into it.
If I were you (and I'm not, I can't afford an rx8) I'd swap a 20b into it
