CAPA Crewman at 'Nats 18:

http://capa.com.au/news.htm

Summernats 18 Newsflash.
11th January, 2005
CAPA Performance, the major sponsors of the horsepower heroes at the Summernats, achieved the year long task of producing a vehicle with over 1000 rear wheel horsepower. The CAPA Crewman produced 1022 horsepower on the dyno, this conservatively equates to over 1185 horsepower at the engine. This makes the CAPA Crewman the most powerful LS-1 road driven car in Australia, possibly the world. We are also happy to report that the CAPA Crewman returned 13.2 Litres per 100km fuel economy on it's 1000km journey to Canberra.

A big thanks to Peter Haylock (Plan B) for his help over the weekend and also making his CAPA Turbo Ute Available, ripping 491HP at the rear wheels, showing how smooth and reliable the Turbo Kit really is.

Also making it's first appearance was the all new CAPA drift ute, carrying CAPA's new colours. The car is set to make it's debut on the race track at Mallala on the 29th of January. The CAPA stunt team (previously the donut king stunt team) put on a sensational show this year at the Summernats.

CAPA would also like to congratulate Eddy Tassone for his win of the Horsepower Heroes, making 1259.6 horsepower at the rear wheels.

On a last note CAPA had a great weekend with Robbie Bolger showing his skills of drifting in the CAPA Crewman on the Today Show. The Sunday Times and The Canberra Times ran a story explaining how a spur of the moment suggestion from Robbie Bolger that the scheduled burn of the Mr Whippy van wasn't enough and burning Lawrence the Legend's Double Decker Bus was the way to go. Robbie put it to the crowd and the crowd went wild. Unfortunately time didn't permit, as Chic Henry's time schedule was very tight.

What a great start to the year.

Dam thats a lot og power for fuel consumption like that. Amazing!.
If that an't the most powerful road drive LS1 it could be the most powerful Ute.
The fuel ecconmy would be better then a Adventra and Avalanche lol

Yeah but what did the TT APS ute get, single digits on a cruise right? Its probably got a pretty lumpy cam or something so <3000rpm wouldnt have the best economy. APS usually doesnt touch the cams and its apparently the biggest area for improvement on the LS1

yeh i saw that crewman, man that some serious work to get that outa the engine. the privateer doesnt really have much of a shot at the HP Heroes anymore with teams being allowed to enter. im gunna enter the datto in 4 cyl NA category with my new engine in it. i saw a cortina holding 2nd in the 6 cyl NA category with 200HP so i must be in with a chance.

The APS TT was about 450-500kw @ the rears and they got about 8-9 per 100kph. But i think that was only on the freeway trip?

Well i suppose in part the different classes help you out there, unless the likes of CAPA and APS get really slack and start running a car in each category.

the APS tonner has a stock bottom end whilst CAPA makes all its big hitters with 383ci stroker kit (though APS does recommend a bottom end rebuild with the turbo kit) and a crewman is a more heavy than a tonner

CAPA basically used alot of off the shelf parts to show what they can do with the LS1 more than anything, they didnt really set out to crack the 1000hp barrier.

Had a look at the capa site last night, liked the 6.2 l ford block, hate to see the price though ,50 k for 680 kw seems a bit steep

Ive seen price tags around the $4-5K mark, so taking that it'd be US currency, double that and youve got a baseline figure for what it'd be to get one over hear. Consider that a complete XR6T engine is around the 7K mark....

well $50K is steep considering Nizpro will throw together a 900kw XR6T engine for $38K
