family members used to have one a few decades back.

this is the only mass-production car made in the Netherlands.it was famous for it's Variomatic (=CVT) trasnmissin.DAF was the first brand which had these transmissions. The inventor(H.van Doorne) was the owner of DAF.

The brand was basically killed because it had an "old people's car" image.no young people wanted to be seen in it.too bad, cos they were surprisingly good.

need more info ?, just ask !

edit: if you ever get to Eindhoven in the South of the Netherlands be sure to visit the DAF Museum. It is very nice.it has a section of DAF Trucks including very nice ones from the 50's and even Paris-Dakar winners !!it also includes a section for the automobiles.Furthermore there is a section with a very good explanation of the CVT/Variomatic transmission.i knew how a CVT worked before i knew how a combustion engine worked.I probably was about 7 years old :d i have some vey nice posters on my room, from the museum.

edit #2:
a good/nice website about the history of DAF and their vehicles:

My office is residing now approximately 100 meters from the exact location where these cars used to leave the production line Although there have been a lot of changes, the general layout of the factory hasn't really changed.

Source of picture: http://www.daftrucks.com

And if you are in the area this is really worth visiting! Not only just because it is run by retired and active employees with a LOT of passion for the cars and trucks!
