The Merlyns were produced by Colchester Racing Developments (CRD) and most of the cars produced were F3, F2 and Formula Ford cars. Nevertheless some outstanding sportscar emerged from Colchester, starting of with the MkIV, which was one of the few cars at the time capable of keeping up or even beating the all conquering Lotus 23.
Fitted with the same 1600 cc Ford Twin Cam engine, it had a multi-tubular spaceframe and weighed in only 460 kg. It is a popular car in the historic scene, and this one was participating in the Silverstone Historics in 2005
