"Page Cannot Be Found."

Anyways, it's an interesting theory. I'm suspecting the brembo brakes would require too much friction to work fully, and be too heavy to stop the bike in it's full potential.

Disc brakes on bikes arent anything new, so i suppose getting a "name" brand disc brake on is a logical next step

New Brembo brakes for mountain bikes!

The new Brembo braking systems for high performance down-hill and free-ride mountain bikes has been officially presented in Whistler, Canada. Brembo enters the bicycle market for the first time with a specific braking system with the same characteristics as those of the Racing Motorcycles. The braking system includes:

discs in tempered stainless steel
calipers radial mounted in anodized aluminium
bracket in anodized aluminium
flexy hoses Racing type
master cylinder aluminium forged with adjustable lever
Brembo brakes are innovative products: powerful, heat resistant and adjustable. The braking system is still a prototype; details for production and sales terms have to be defined.

They're only a name brand, nothing new. For a performance mountain bike, disc-brakes are pretty much a must.

My city-bike has discs Most people call them drum-brakes but if you examine them closer they are really brake discs

Well, if you think of a car, disc brakes and drum brakes are pretty hard to get mixed up...

Well on my bike it is basically a small disc(diameter of about 6 cm). Against that is a small housing containing calipers and the usual stuff. the technology is that of disc brakes but because of the housing it's a drum brake

(Just a pity that with the current hot weather i cannot brake too hard cos the cables expanded and are much softer. No more front wheel wheelies for a while )

I used to do them pretty easily even with the old V brakes...they were nice and easy to fiddle around with which helped alot.

the V-brakes used to go slipping after a while for me. Also i pulled in half the brakelines about twice a month On my current city-bike it aint that eas to do them, because there is a lot of weight on the back (heavy gears). After a few weeks of practice i can now do them properly My record is staying on my front wheel for about 35 metres (backwheel 5 kilometres )

Disc brakes are the only way to go on a moutain bike, they aren't affected by mud or water and nearly maintenance free. Mine are made by Hayes who makes Harley Davidson's brakes.

A lot of companies make them now, Shimano, Avid, Magura, Hope etc.

Brembo is smart to get in this market considering how many bikes there are worldwide.

brembo sounds like they are using fluid with master cylinders but this is totally unnessesary. im lookin for a new bike. Trek 7.5 something like that. u can get it with discs or V's. idk which to get though.

Depends on the riding. If you do a very large amount of riding, get discs. They're more powerful, have more adjustability, but they are harder and more expensive to maintain. They do look the goods though!
If it's minimal riding, get V brakes. They're much easier to maintain/tune, they're cheaper than all but the worst discs and they're lighter than almost all disc brakes.

My bike doesn't have brakes. Does that mean I'm more manly?
