In Europe most of these cars are used only to be parked in front of a restaurant or a coffee shop, to show other people where the money is.
I think there are better choices to go offroad and much better choices for a sportscar. |

and it uses premium doesn't it? which can be a little hard to find/expensive in the outback
not to mention if you break down, no-one can fix your car

To go outback in a Cayenne you'd have to bring a satellite phone wouldn't you? You're lucky to get mobile phone reception even on the bitumen, so when you get out into the boonies and invariably slash a tyre and the goo-can doesn't work then you're effectively stranded until help chooses to arrive. Then a wait of two or three days (or longer) until a specific-sized replacement tyre gets sent out at vast expense from one of the capital cities. Much later there's the challenge of finding a specialist tyre-fitting machine within the nearest 500-1000 miles which is capable of mounting it on the rim. Then another wait for the replacement to be sent out to the car ..
Is Cayenne a good offroader? In the context of our country it's nothing but a pretentious joke. I could think of few 4wds that would be LESS suitable to take offroad, let alone venture into the outback |

Well, on the Top Gear review Clarkson was fanging it round a tank course and it seemed to be going up sandy hills quite well. I imagine with some off road tyres it could go well. They're quite high and look like they've got resonable ground clearnace, not really any worse than a Prado or similar. And IIRC Cockburn had no complaints with the S on the Arabian sands
