The reason that when the time comes, my car will go to Europe for sale though admittedly wouldn't bring as much as this. It should be pointed out that this is a series 2 car, rarest of the true Batmobiles. Moreover, it has a significant history and unassailable provenence. Beautiful... nice to see signs of use on it.

^^^ When the #2275XXX lowlands cars break into $100K territory, I'll be ready...
Still confounds me that more 911RS's were built yet CSLs don't command as much $$$.

Estimate: €35.000-€45.000

206 bhp, 3,003 cc OHV inline six-cylinder engine, Bosch D-Jetronic electronic fuel-injection, four-speed manual gearbox, four-wheel independent suspension, and four-wheel hydraulic disc brakes. Wheelbase: 2,625 mm (103.4")

• Legendary racing-homologation special
• Excellent condition and running order; four-speed gearbox, original lightweight seats
• Limited series number 47
• BMW Group Classic certificate

Produced in two distinct series between 1973 and 1975, the BMW 3.0 CSL was truly a racing car for the road. Specific features included a lightweight alloy bonnet and outer door skins, thin-gauge steel panels, lightweight interior and an up-rated 3-litre engine. Deleted front bumpers and radical aerodynamic devices were further options inspiring its “Batmobile” nickname.

On the track, the 3.0 CSL won the 1973 European Touring Car Championship with Toine Hezemans, who also co-drove a 3.0 CSL with Dieter Quester to a class victory at Le Mans that year. After 1974, the CSL continued in the German Touring Car and the FIA Group 5, often highlighted by the airborne driving style of famed BMW works driver Hans-Joachim Stuck. The CSL was also highly successful in America’s IMSA GT Championship with Brian Redman, Ronnie Peterson and Sam Posey.

This four-speed example retains the original lightweight “bucket” seats and remains in excellent original condition and running order, clearly benefiting from proper care and maintenance. Purchased by the current owner in 2010, he has only done 200 km since. With their brilliant racing heritage and sublime driving dynamics, these 3.0 CSLs are some of the finest and best performing racing homologation specials in the hobby.
