LOVED Manta Manta, reminded me of some of the clothes I wore and the hairstyles

    Here we go ...

    Rendezvous (1976) - IMDb

and for bikers has to include

TT3D: Closer to the Edge (2011) - IMDb
    Faster (2003) - IMDb
    and
No Limit (1935) - IMDb for the lulz

PS: Recently an idiot tried to reproduce Rendezvous in Edinburgh and posted the results to FaceBook. Didn't seem to realise that they coudl look up junction cameras and see his car and HIM. His court case comes up this month

I really wanted to steer clear of racing movies, more interested in movies with sports cars. but yeah, that is a good movie

Two from the '70s... prime drive-in flix, though not as good as Vanishing Point.

    IMDb Video: Two-Lane Blacktop

IMDb Video: Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry

At the other end of the spectrum were dreck like Spinout and Gumball Rally.

But who could forget Death Race 2000? Also kind of surprised no one has mentioned John Carpenter's Christine.

Good reminders .... but hey why get down on Death Race ? A great movie
Pennsylvania, the cradle of liberty, it seems apparent that our citizens are staying off the streets, which may make scoring particularly difficult, even with this year's rule changes. To recap those revisions: women are still worth 10 points more than men in all age brackets, but teenagers now rack up 40 points, and toddlers under 12 now rate a big 70 points. The big score: anyone, any sex, over 75 years old has been upped to 100 points.

Not down on it, it's tremendous fun but at the time, few got the dark humor of it. Love the kitsch kars... just a blast.
But as great cinema, not so much.

true I think I just misread your meaning of "spectrum" and "forget". I took it to imply even worse
