Thunderbird, absolutely. Big coupes (especially fast big coupes) are way more awesome than a hot rod truck.

Try to find a 1990 model with the automatic shoulder belts (they add as much to the awesome factor as the 8-track player does for my Cougar).

Swap the Lightning engine into the T-bird. Win.

Swap a Ford GT or 1.8T engine into the truck. Win all.
I'm dropping out to create a company that starts with motorcycles, then cars, and forty years later signs a legendary Brazilian driver who has a public and expensive feud with his French teammate.

Why don't you actually buy a good car?

EDIT: I chose the Thunderbird, but I must say that it is so atrocious looking that I actually think the truck looks better than it.

A damn truck looking better than a two door coupe. What the hell were car designers paid for in the 80s?

I say you buy another BMW or something. At least they look nice.

I'd get the Tbird personally. The F150 is undeniably redneck. Theres a little bit of doubt left with the Tbird.

    Oh, and the Tbird's manual.

We had two Fords and they were find cars.

I'd personally go for the car.

I would take the truck. I see no reason to own a supercharged 3.8l v6 that takes that long to get through the 1/4 or makes that little of power. on top of that its ugly, and the truck's looks dont matter as much to me since its a truck. But atleast you can haul and tow stuff with it.

    in reality id get neither.

The average price of this era lightning on autotrader.com is $8000, the thunderbird $4500. I'd like to throw out some more inspiring choices in that price range:

    87-93 Ford Mustang GT
(you might could even luck up and find an LX for about the same price as the lightning.)

    5.0 V8
    225 hp/300 ft lbs

82-89 Mitsubishi Starion (also sold in the US as Chrysler, Dodge, and Plymouth Conquest.) A good condition 87-89 model can be had for less than the Thunderbird.

    2.6 Liter turbocharged I4
    197 hp

86-92 Mazda RX-7 turbo (FC) a pristine example can be had for < the lightning.

    1.3 liter turbocharged rotary 182hp, 200hp from 89-91.

An early MX-5 can be easily had for the same money. Can't go wrong with a Miata, this is probably the best balance of reliability and performance.

If extra cargo capacity is important to you go with the truck, otherwise keep looking.
