When will Ford and Holden make an attempt?

Im talking about the record for "The World's Fastest Pickup Truck" of course.

"Unnoficially", HSV's Maloo would hold the record, as the outgoing VY2 GTS could hit 270km/h as an auto, so surely an LS2 equipped Maloo would be able to get close, or at least higher than the ~150mph runs the SVT Lightning and Ram SRT-10 can "only" manage.

Theoretically, any of the SS, Maloo, Maloo R8, XR6T, XR8, F6 Tornado, Pursuit or Super Pursuit utes have the power, torque, gearing and aerodynamics to make such an attempt at the record. The Ford's and FPV's of course are hobbled by their speed limiters, but not so the Holdens and HSV's, but regardless all these cars have gearing well and truly capable of doing the speeds.

Some ways yes, some ways no.

The last couple of years, Ford's sold more F-150's than the whole Australian car market has sold cars, trucks and buses in general. Collectively, Ford and Holden probably sell "only" 35,000 utes per year.

i reckon the LS2 Maloo would beat that 270kmh of the GTS easy, whats the current record?

I doubt Ford would let a smaller division have a faster truck than the Lightning. And GM has to build more SUV's to get out of debt.

I'd be concerned that Ford US would feel outdone by the Colonials and stop the test.

but at the same time, would the Ute be considered in the same catagory as stuff like the Cayenne and X5 in the guiness book of records?

Well if Detroits concerned, then that holds Ford and Holden back, but FPV being 51% owned by Prodrive and HSV being 100% owned by whoever bought them off TWR, they may wish to put their mark in the books.

The current records about 250km/h, or i think 150-155mph, so get either the Maloo R8 or Super Pursuit which would come with the hard tonnou cover and rear spoiler, and they should be able to do it. Even then, if the Maloo doesnt pass for being a coupe utility rather than a pickup utility, then that leaves the Fords.

Or like an SS compared to an XR8.

The Ford Ute is not a Coupe Utility because the rear tray is bolted seperately to the chassis.

Every ute made except for the old Holden one tonners used to be a coupe utility, it was only until Ford made the AU that there was a pickup utility.
