Sim Racing taken to the next level

A bunch of crazy French people have constructed a massive simulator that allows you to race other people in the same room while sitting in a real racing car. There are single seaters, prototypes and rally cars. More info here:

I-WAY : simulateur Formule 1, centre de simulation F1 sur Lyon
If you should see a man walking down a crowded street talking aloud to himself, don't run in the opposite direction, but run towards him, because he's a poet. You have nothing to fear from the poet - but the truth.

    nice.
Hard to see a return on that investment tho'
Mind you, seeing the rest of stuff they sell, money probably isn't an issue !!

Having tried a rally car on a sim platform, it's definately more fun -- though still lacking wheel feedback

That's pretty awesome. But how expensive is it? I didn't look.

I wouldn't mind go karting though. I've never gone.

listen to this man, for he brings wisdom. simulations are nice and all, but real is real. I´ve given it some thought and this is cool for us people who´ll never drive, let alone sit in a real formula 1 otherwise.but the courses aren´t real. huge turnoff.

I don´t know about you guys, but my formula 1 fantasy involves not only the top spot of the podium and the car (i´ll have a ferrari f2006 painted in lotus 69 livery kthxbai ), but also storming through eau rouge and the spoon curve (so it´s no longer F1 so what, I am ayrton f. senna ) not "circuits 1, 2 et 3"

that´s not to mention the adrenaline of real danger, the smells, the paddock girls, the photographer pushing, the making shampoo commercials in italian. can they give me that? no.

I´d go anyway if I were french though. you gotta somehow support the efforts if you want them to improve their product over time

I liked since the moment I read this sentence:
The simulators provide a physically demanding experience. Wear appropriate clothing for practicing sports. If possible, bring an extra T-shirt to change into.
real driving is a whole different world, but since I will probably never do it, I'm fine with this. karting is another good option, but I wouldn't compare them, this is a huge and expensive game console, it's PlayStation or XBox at N-degree, a virtual experience, karting is real and completely "analogical", fun and involvement, but of the physical kind.
