Hamilton has topped the opening practice, which was halted due to heavy crash from Kovalainen:

They said they shortened one of the straights 50 meters or something like that and there is only one DRS zone.

First race I watched this year, tires made the outcome quite unpredictable...DRS zones apprently prevent one slow driver to keep all those behind him at bay, but it makes overtaking very easy.

I wouldn't say that...all the passes that looked easy the one being passed was running much slower laptime anyway. When they are running similar lap time, the passing even with DRS was not guaranteed. Most of the one being passed had traction issue coming out of the hairpin anyway, rendering them much more vulnerable to DRS....

Tires once again prove to be the Great Equalizer..... I think its a shame. I'd much rather see the cars going as fast as they can be rather than rely on tire strategy and pit schedules to get ahead of the competition.

The season I think is undoubtedly entertaining, but there is a bit of a philosophical issue for me with tire conservation being employed as a key element in a sprint race...

Not any complaints from me this season except for the fugly noses.
Good race overall. Ferrari certainly underestimated the tire deg there at the end but in the beginning I didn't think any team was going to have a shot at Vettel. Mclaren certainly have not been the best team yet Hami has the lead...the formula this season is completely unpredictable which is great for a change. |
