So I am doing the SCCA Starting Line/Evolution Performance Driving School Phase 1 this weekend. Basically an in depth autoX school. The list of instructor for the weekend is out and among them is last year's GT Academy USA winner Bryan Heitkotter...this ought to be interesting...

What car you planning to use ?
    Going on to compete ??
A few AutoX are run down south in England, but we've not seen it take over from sprints and hillclimbs for competition here.

We don't have much hills to climb around here...lol, we do have plenty of parking lots.
I've been doing AutoX in my car for 2 years now, just doing it not very seriously and just more to have fun. Being not much fun roads to drive on and track days are expensive, autoX is just cheaper, slower and more accessible than anything else while you are still doing limit handling stuff, just at a slower speed. I think the appeal in US vs the rest of the world is that it is much cheaper and we do have plenty of open space. The technique and setup of cars is sorta biased to that effect, but its still a fun thing to do with cars. And there is just less stuff to worry about either breaking or hitting something. Like I said in the video thread, hillclimb stuff blows my mind...to think people do that in their road cars too... AutoX is also pretty much a natural extension from doing Formula Student/FSAE since that's what we are doing with those cars. Just doing it a lot slower now in street cars...

I am still just using my Golf.

Agreed, I think the limiting factor here is availability of large parking lots.
Most of them had "health and safety" makeovers in the last decade so have many more light posts in the way

I've helped guys on setup who are doing Auto-X down south as it mirrors our sprints. Just the sprints are on dedicated narrow tracks in the main.
    Hills are another breed
Do both in my daily driver (almost - ProDrive mods). Just spotted last night some Armco/wall marks down the side from Doune last event. Didn't even realise I'd got that close
Maybe the pictures DO tell a thousand words !!

Big plus for starting out is the reduced speeds mean less safety gear is required by the FIA/MSA. We still have a significant financial/technical barrier to doing sprints and hills.

I do keep dropping in to car parks and industrial estates looking for a suitable site here for an Auto-X

    ^ That is scary....lol

Yeah for autocrosses, all you need is a helmet(they even have loaner helmets), and a car that is not falling apart. People who takes it seriously still takes it very seriously, they can have trailered car with autocross specific setups and whatnot. Its not like you win anything though...

But it is fun and I have a few friend who does it also so there are bragging rights to be had. More so though I just want to drive my car.

So, people also take single seaters up that road. There was an ex-F1 car there last year I think, right Matra?

Something like Gould Racing turns old tub from other cars into Hillclimb specials...

I vaguely remember discussing that company (or similar) with Matra at the event.

Nearly. Moran's GR61X is a Gould design and build chassis - not an "old" one, they moved away from that a few years back as the smaller cars were showing you couldn't take a track chassis and make it work well enough on the hills where weight and nimbleness are key

BUT the other fast car was the TQ Predator which is Graeme Wight's own design after finding the Gould "too slow"

Another one I went over was the same designer's Raptor, the tiny red bike engine one

    You saw all these

and for those who are seeing the vids for the first time. NO they are not edited or speeded up. THAT is real time ! You need balls to race Doune

This is always a good one to see throttle and left foot braking in a bike engine, sequential box and flat-shifter

Well, I just bought the game and saved like 50 bucks. Got the XL, impressions so far...I have been either updating or downloading shit for the last 2.5 hours. SERIOUSLY. this is the worst game I have ever played so far. Why in gods name would someone have to buy the game then download so much crap just to play it. Was it that bad when it came out?

*edit* and it has 40 minutes left to go...

It would seem like all the patches and DLC were not included on the disc. That seems like the worst way to go. I'm not even sure why they didn't go that route, I'm sure the Blu Ray disc has space to spare. It just seems lazy.

The Dishonored Greatest Hits bundle does it right- all 3 DLC packs are on the disc at 1.5 gigs per pack. It makes installing so much faster and easier. Polyphony just seems sloppy now.

Software updates and installs are easily the worst part about owning a PS3.

I just want to play video games, I don't want to wait. Why can't you install it when I shut down?
