Debuting with the Pao at the 27th Tokyo Motor Show, the S-Cargo was launched in January of the following year, 1989. The playful yet practical style proved popular. As well as the standard roof, a canvas top was available. This vehicle’s paintwork was designed by Masuo Ikeda (1934-1997), a versatile artist whose talents stretched to sculpture and film direction. The spacious, table-type instrument panel sports a large speedometer in the center, while the AT selector is located in the upper part of the center console. The high roof (1,230mm) of the cargo space was also very popular. In two years, a total of 8,000 units were produced.
