    Budgeting

So, I'm going to be moving out in about ~18 months, and I started thinking about what my costs are going to be. Here's a basic list of the costs I came up with. My plan is to purchase a mobile home, I can get a nice size one and split the costs with the roommate.

    Rent
    Mustang payment
    Gas
    Groceries
    Car ins
    Electric
    Water
    House insurance
    Property tax
    Season pass for skiing
    Phone/Cable/internet bundle

Am I missing any of the basic budget categories?

If you're renting you don't need to worry about insurance / property tax, and if the rent is affordable, everything else (utilities etc.) mean nothing (with a steady job and a decent salary).

You pretty much got everything. I almost every month end up going to nightclubs, movie theaters, and eating out. Easily a $200 expense/month... So I'd consider that.

    Health Insurance.

I've been thinking about finding a mobile home for a first home too. I don't really need much more than that for now.

A good employer will take care of Health Insurance, probably about $80 per month and it's taken out of your gross income. If it's not available at your current job, then don't get it. It'll be too expensive and you're a young / healthy guy

Well the house itself will be about $250ish a month, but the space rent for the space it sits in at the trailer park is a lot more. All told the house and space rent come out to around $1100/mo, split two ways with a roommate. Because the house is probably only going to be $30-40k, there will be property tax, but not much (California's property tax was capped in a Taxpayer Revolt in '79 ).

Yeah, entertainment, etc. is something I don't really budget. I take care of bills first and if I have any left over, then I think about the fun stuff but $200/mo doesn't sound off base at all. Maybe I should add it just to know what to expect.

I'm sorry, it's a mobile home... I guess I missed that part. I thought you were just renting a regular apt/house.

Don't you guys pay for Gas with your utilities ?.
Also try set yourself some money away. It doesn't have to be 1000's just a small amount to fall back on in hard times is great.

I think he means gas as in gas for his car/truck/etc.

I would add something like 200 - 300 dollars on intangibles. Could be anything from parking tickets, car repairs, etc.

What about phone bills and whatnot? Can be quite considerable if you text/call a lot.

Home phone...no cell for me. I'm not a huge phone fan be it talking or texting. Leave a message at the beep...*beep*

Yeah, I should put in some sort of contingency fund. Damn this is getting expensive.

Well at first I'll be renting, probably some basic crappy month-to-month place on the wrong side of the tracks, so the ~$15/mo for renters' should be well worth it.
