Well it was clear to anyone in business that the Ring-Werk was an expensive monstrosity and it seems that it's being run by folks without any clue on the heritage and REASON for the 'Ring.

Background
From 2007 - 2009 the German government built a huge Leisure Park at the Nürburgring. It is based on fake visitor numbers, over sized and badly executed. Most of the time it is an empty ghost town. Once promised as private investment, it is now based on a debt of 350+ million EUR public money.

Instead of pulling the plug they rented the park, including both race tracks to exactly the same privateers who were driving forces behind the Leisure Park's initial private setup.

Without Racing experience they are since experimenting with events completely unrelated to Motor-sport all under the iconic "Nürburgring" brand name.

They now want Nordschleife to pay for the huge losses. Tourist drives are at a record high, plus a 5 times increase in rent for the automotive industry for their prototype testing sessions.

What Needs To Be Done?

Separate Nordschleife from ring°park.
Let Nürburgring be Motor-sport.
Value the great heritage and tradition, rather than Roller Coasters.
Let the Ring be run by Motor-sport experts.

yeah dont start one of those BS it's not real hoax shit claims. Destroyed MANY real ones

THe 'Ring IS charging MUCH more and the risk is they are prcing OUT the serious track testing that keeps the Ring in good condition. THe Ring-Werk IS a compeltely WRONG development and IS badly run -- ie they didnt' accept credit cards in ANY store or restaurant !!! FFS. With a 350M loan they ARE trying stupid ideas and it DOES put the whole thing at risk of driving it out of affordability for many attendees and then if the numbers drop then the track closes - FOREVER. WOnt happen in the near future, but if left in the hands of the "so called businesses" now then it's going to be soon

Think of it as being in the early stages of sub-prime mortgages. IF people had listened and acted then the world wodlnt' ahve fallen into the honey trap the US banking system created Leave it too long and not only does it start going bad but you cant stop it.

He did agree that the 'sideshow' that has been attached to the track is a joke.

( I've property there and income RELIANT on these people not screwing it up ! )

Folks thought everybody getting mortgages they coudlnt afford was "no danger" too if you remember

How so? Some details would be appreciated. Property developers can (and have) quietly change the economic and political conditions that seemingly protect places like the 'Ring before anyone can lobby to stop them. Money nearly always overcomes public opinion, and then it's too late. Because it's easy to paint motorsport as antithetical to environmental issues, racing facilities are soft targets.

The property is more than simply a racetrack with extraordinary history. Because of it's unique location and cultural significance, the Nürburgring should be considered for World Heritage Site status.

I don't recall exactly his reasons as it was some weeks back...but obviously he based his opinions on other than the reading here.

Matra is right, this is no different than the financial shenanigans that brought the world economy to the brink: private profit while managing a financial failure, losses (€350,000,000) born by the public. As suggested by the Save The 'Ring crowd, separate the Nordschleife from Liesure Park and replace Richter & Lidner as facilities managers. Certain EU officials may also want to prosecute them and whichever ministers bodged the deal to begin with.
