I have this pic as the 1948 Ferrari 166 S driven by Biondetti & Marone, no more pics tho.
Ferrari 166 Sport
Construction of Ferrari's new Tipo 166 Sport began over the winter of 1947 / 48, this model bringing with it the arrival of a two-litre version of Colombo’s 60° V12. A total of three Tipo 166 Sport's were built on chassis numbers 001 S, 003 S and 005 S, all of which were visually quite distinct from one another, each using a 2620mm wheelbase chassis (200mm longer than the Spyder Corsa). Differing from previous 125 and 159 motors thanks mainly to that aforementioned increase in engine displacement, bore rose from 58mm to 60mm while stroke also went up by 0.8 to 58.8mm. This resulted in a capacity of 1995cc and after the compression was upped 10.1:1, power jumped to 150bhp at 7000rpm.
The first two chassis's were bodied by Allemano, 001 S to a unique Spyder design and 003 S with a Coupe body. Both, although different in detail, were clearly the work of the same carrozzeria. For chassis 001 S, Allemano seemed to draw several cues from the Peiretti bodied Tipo 125 Sport (chassis 01 C), most notably the prominent nose grille and headlight treatment although better integrated front wings provided the Barchetta with a more contemporary appearance than the earlier 125. Chassis 003 S, meanwhile, was actually the first closed cabin car that Ferrari had produced and demonstrated the continuing evolution from one body to the next with its neater overall profile than it's Barchetta sister. Touring of Milan designed and fabricated bodywork for the last of the three 166 Sport's, chassis 005 S. This particular body was to prove a good indicator for the forthcoming 166 Inter that would officially be unveiled in twelve months time. Much to the joy of Ferrari, two of the most prestigious international motor races were won by 166 Sport's in 1948.
166 Sport Allemano Coupe chassis 003 S First came the Targa Florio in April with Clementi Biondetti and the car's owner, Prince Igor Troubetzkoy, driving 001 S. Hounded by the 1100cc Cisitalia of Piero Taruffi, Biondetti emerged victorious with an average speed of 54.15mph. Then came the Mille Miglia in May and again with Biondetti at the wheel (this time accompanied by navigator Navone) Ferrari were winners. Finishing in a time of just over 15 hours, Biondetti inherited the lead from Nuvolari (also in a Ferrari) for another win. However, neither 001 S or 003 S exist today, both having been destroyed and junked in 1951 and '58 respectively.
