funny, but it was called Fiat REGATA, which was based on the Fiat Ritmo and nearly similar to the Seat Malaga, which based on the Seat Ronda, which was nearly the same car as the Ritmo, because before VW bought Seat, most Seats were licence build Fiats.

    i found it that way:

    - i was reading the column of jeremy clarkson on timesonline.co.uk
    - it was about the new lambo murcielago - and about that he remembers how the regata drives - which was build in the 80's - but not how the all new honda legend feels, he drove just some weeks ago (conclusion: the legend ist forgettable, the lambo isn't)
    - i didn't know how the regata looks, so I googled it
    - but i didn't type rEgata, rather then rAgata - which is wrong and means "bitch" in swedish b the way
    - another member of this forum also wrote rAgata and for sure it was shown on google

that's not just how i found the thread, that's also how i found this whole website!!

Since 1950. The first model was the 1400, and the classic 600 appeared in 1957.

So translating names can generate nonsense for even your most beloved car

There original language, what else ???

Did you get the "escort Mexico" joke. There's probably some guy in Tokyo laughing that that name as a "prostitite" clearly wrong, it's the translation that's at fault.

On estupid name doesn't make them all stupid.
Nissan have had a history of using names for their large limos that imply comfort, status. So you get Cedric - an English name.
You usually find if you take 2 minutes that the reason for the name is actually quite sound !!

You also have to remember that the society in Japan loves its product base to be quirky. It's almost a Japanese trademark.
