That wasn't a concept, just the initial model, the Zonda C12, which was using the same engine of the S600 (394 bhp).
Then the engine was updated to 7.0 liters and 550 bhp. Two more years and it was enlarged to 7.3 liters, same power (555 bhp), but more torque and with a better distribution. That same engine has been then updated to more powerfull steps, but was never increased in displacement again.

But why? I mean the TVR Speed 12 (which never reached production, obviously) had an even larger engine...
Just one question: more displacement=less power per liter=less power-efficient engine???
    *totally confused*

    Thanks for the clarification.

Eventually, you bore out enough and you won't have an engine anymore, that's why.

And now for something completely different...My favorite engines are pre-war (that's WWII, kiddies)--The Miller 91, Delage 1.5 liter, Bugattis both sohc (Type 35) and dohc (Type 51 and 57), the Vittorio Jano Alfas - 1750, 2300, and 2900, the Duesenberg J and SJ,Maserati 8CTF and 8CL, and the Offy, which ran forever. If I had to pick a few post-WWII engines, I would choose the Ferrari Colombo V-12, the Mercedes straight-8 engines , and the immortal Cosworth DFV.

Commodore GS/E--Your response is ambiguous (to me, at least) M-B's FI engine of 1954-55 was a straight-8, desmo valve gear, fuel injected, built-up roller-bearing crank, with power being taken off at the center of the crankshaft. For sports car racing, there was a 3-liter variant. Also, of the pre-war engines that I mentioned, all but the Offy and Alfa 1750 were straight-8s. I hope that this proves enlightening.

I made this comment because i'm a HUGE fan of straigh engines. And i never knew Merc ever made a straight 8 because i never was that interested in pre-war cars.

By the way, what was the last straight 8 ever made?

I'm pretty sure they're still used in coaches.
Automotively; the Buick 8 of the '40s?

Well technically Pieter's car was used until 1955, altough it wasn't a road car.

After doing some looking; the Buick 8 was the last GM straight 8 and died in 1953, with the other brands killing theirs off in the preceding years.
Packard also ended their I8 production in 1954.
