'Super Aguri' to buy Arrows chassis

Aguri Suzuki's prospective bid to re-enter F1 with his own team looks like it took a step closer to happening this week. Under current Concorde Agreement rules they wouldn't be allowed to just purchase a chassis from an existing team, and there would be no way on earth that they could develop one in the time available (especially as they still haven't even put together any technical staff!), so buying the old 2003 Arrows chassis (from Paul Stoddart of all people) would be the only option to get onto the grid sometime in 2006.

Now, considering that they don't actually have a team, an engine, tyres, an aero package and they only have one driver (Takuma Sato, apparently), and they will be using a chassis developed 2-3 years ago by a backmarking team, how many points do we think they'll get next season?

I think they'll probably end up making the much maligned Minardi's of recent seasons look like world-beaters in comparison! I think it'll be a bit of an embarrasment all round really, harking back to the old days of Team Andrea Moda and Eurobrun.

If F1 develops further into historic racing, it may become more interesting to watch

Or a restricted V10. With the proposed restrictors the V10 seems to perform better than the V8.

Super Aguri fail in bid for '06 entry

Aguri Suzuki's planned entry into F1 as a team manufacturer was left hanging in the balance after they were omitted from the FIA's list of entrants for the 2006 season. Rumours are that they have failed to stump up the $48million 'bond' for entry.

The only possible way for them to enter late is by getting unanimous agreement from all 10 other teams, and then still having to come up with cash for the bond. Considering they barely even have any technical staff let alone a car, I think the term "uphill struggle" is understatement of the year if they are to get onto the grid for Bahrain in March.

And people were worried Williams wont be able to make a turnaround in such short time...

Its for the better that he got knocked back. We'll see this year whether it worked out for Midland not jumping into it, expecting big things but falling flat on their faces. Aguri could learn a thing or two as far as they go, but best of luck to him anyway. Even if hes only a backmarker, with RB's purchase of Minardi and Midland taking full control of Jordan, theres a limited platform for aspiring drivers actually racing, not just testing.

Super Aguri Update.....

The latest news on Aguri Suzuki's bid is that maybe they will get onto the grid in 2006 afterall. Until the last couple of days it seemed that Midland F1's intransigence on the issue would scupper all hopes for getting a car onto the grid in March. Because they failed to put together a solid bid and come up with the $48million 'bond' in time they were left off the FIA's official entry list, and the only way a late entrant can be admitted is with the unanimous approval of all ten current teams. Midland F1 were the only team dead against the idea (although it was rumoured Toyota were also les than convinced by the proposal, probably more to do with the large funding from their archrivals Honda than anything else), but http://www.f1racing.net/en/news.php?newsID=105810 are reporting that they may have done an eleventh hour U-turn. Sounds like Bernie got his grubby little hands involved in the matter, helping convince/force Midland that the new team would be a good idea.

The article also has a little bit of info on how the team is shaping up, using 50-60 former Arrows staff and reuniting them with the old Arrows chassis.
