US set for New Jersey GP in 2013

Formula 1 set to add second US race on streets of New Jersey from 2013 - F1 news - AUTOSPORT.com

Formula 1 is set to have two grands prix in the United States from 2013, with plans for a race around the streets of New Jersey expected to be confirmed as early as next week

    ........

It is understood that the New Jersey GP will take place in June 2013, so it can be a back-to-back race with Canada, which will then leave the Austin event to keep its place at the tail end of the schedule to tie up with the Brazilian Grand Prix
The return of the Mexican GP should leave the Americas with almost a quarter of the calender.

Exciting. Except, rushed I would guess. Bringing a regular street into the spec it needs to be in under two years is not going to be easy. With F1 returning to the US in Texas next year, this seems more like a dream to be realized after the first race in the US for several years.

If they race in Newark it's going to be more than exciting- they'll have to worry about people stealing the cars themselves!

Or they could race in Elizabeth, they can race on Route 1 and 9, one of the most pothole infested and polluted areas I've ever driven through.

    Can't wait.

I think this has been in development almost as long as the Texas race. Theres certainly been a pretty heavy push from Bernie on the idea of a New York GP. Now with Tavo Hellmund moving onto the Mexican GP project i wouldnt be surprised to see them get a date as early as 2014.

Or they can race in the closed GM plant in Linden.

Ah, it's so easy to make bad jokes about NJ.

I'm not seeing many spectator areas, or any at all for that matter. Also, how big is the paddock? It's gotta fit all the haulers and miscellaneous stuff like that

They were in the bidding process but I think they're not being considered anymore.

Good track, but has the same issue as pretty much all other tracks in the US that prevent it from being suitable for F1 races: its a "road course" type of track without the sufficient infrastructure to support an F1 race (i.e. undersized paddock as mentioned by Cobrafan427, not many grandstands, not deemed "modern" enough by Bernie, layout too short, etc)

The only things bernie cares about are:
the willingness to sign a 10 year contract
    government support and
for new tracks the timeframe in which they can be built.

Most other stuff is fia regulated

Its interesting they want a street race. Their is so much cheap land down their that could be quickly built up to build a superb track. They might have an issue with obese orange ladies marauding the drivers though.

Cheap land near the NYC though? They don't care what they race on, they want to be within sight of NYC....that was the point....

If ya ever drive through Jersey, 90% of what you see is marshland, with NYC always to your left. The marsh is almost always cheap, especially with all the industrial waste dumped in their over the years.
