    Nissan to join V8 Supercars - V8 Supercar news - AUTOSPORT.com

Wondering what model will they use...what big RWD saloon do they sell in Australia?

Also interesting if you are in US, V8 will go to the Austin F1 track I believe in 2013...

Maybe a Skyline with a V8 sourced from one of their trucks? It will be interesting to see...

With that said, I will probably forget about it until they officially release photos two months from now.

So are the current V8s actually have any link to the car they carried the namesake?

AFAIK Nissan is launching the Infiniti brand in 2013 in Australia, So potentially one of their 4 doors, powered by a V8 from America.

Does it matter which car they use? The race cars have virtually no relation to the road cars anyway. Lets remember that Toyota use the Camry for their NASCAR. It doesn't have to be RWD.

All that matters is it's a 4-door, right? Gotta be a plus to mix up the Ford and Holden show.

I honestly don't know whats the rule for V8s....do they use the production body-in-white as base or is everything fabricated?

The shells made are shortened compared to the road cars, mostly changed in the rear.

Fewer than 10 parts are shared between a Commodore road car and Bright's race car, and they're bits like the badge, door handles and rear-view mirrors.
The engines are not production based either.

As of 2013 (I think, maybe even this year) they will be using a COTF (Car Of The Future) design similar to NASCAR where everyone uses the same car basically but can put their own body on it and own engine within regulations. This means that there will be almost nothing shared form the road cars. Nissan have said they will be using a 5.0L Nissan block for the racecars.
