Highlights of the New Porsche Boxster and Boxster S
New Generation

The second-generation Boxster range comes in a new, dynamic outfit in terms of both looks and technical features. In their design, the new models follow Porsche's usual process of steady and consistent evolution. Without being required or seeing any need to radically change the design and looks of the car, Porsche's designers have further refined the already very well-balanced and harmonious design language of the former model. The very nose of the car with its new headlight design, the silhouette of the new Boxster with its new, even more muscular contour of lines, the larger wheels, as well as the rear end with its new, even more striking joints and seams all look familiar and well-acquainted, but are nevertheless even clearer, firmer and more functional in style than before.
New power

The new power in the design of the Porsche Boxster continues appropriately within the lightweight bodyshell of this outstanding mid-engined roadster: Maximum output of the 2.7-litre Boxster is now 176 kW or 240 bhp, an increase by 8 kW or 12 bhp. Maximum output of the 3.2-litre six-cylinder in the Boxster S, in turn, is up from 191 kW or 260 bhp to 206 kW or 280 bhp. Performance on the road has improved accordingly, the Boxster now requiring a mere 6.2 seconds for the standard sprint from 0 – 100 km/h and achieving a top speed of 256 km/h or 159 mph. The Boxster S, in turn, accelerates to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds and has a top speed of 268 km/h or 166 mph.

The optimised five-speed gearshift on the Boxster offers the driver even shorter, crisper and more precise shift travel than before, plus improved synchromesh. The Boxster S comes with a new six-speed manual gearbox also featuring shorter gear travel and available as an option on the Boxster in conjunction with active suspension.
Wider track with active suspension as an option

Enhanced to an even higher standard and with an increase in track between 24 and 35 millimetres (0.94 – 1.38"), larger wheels and new tyres, the suspension allows even higher lateral acceleration with road comfort remaining unchanged. The Boxster comes as standard on 17-inch wheels (previously 16-inch), the Boxster S runs on wheels measuring 18 inches (previously 17 inches) in diameter. Porsche's new PASM Active Suspension Management available as an option changes the damper control map at the touch of a button, thus offering the best of two worlds in one and the same system: The perfect combination of a sporting and comfortable suspension, on the one hand, with an extremely dynamic, performanceoriented set-up on the other, ensuring a supreme standard also on the race track.
Sports Chrono Package for enhanced performance

The Porsche Sports Chrono Package is simply ideal for the sports-minded, truly dedicated driver. Offering modified engine control maps and management strategies for driving to the extreme with maximum safety and efficiency, this individual feature activated at the touch of a button comprises an analogue/digital stopwatch on the instrument panel enabling the driver to check the dynamic performance of his car down to the last hundredth of a second.
Driving dynamics improved to an even higher standard

Benefitting from the mid-engine concept, the Boxster series now offers an even higher standard of performance on the road ensured not only by the wider track and larger wheels. In addition Porsche's development engineers have reduced lift forces both front and rear and have minimised the drag coefficient to a Cd rating of 0.29 on the Boxster and 0.30 on the Boxster S.

The new rack-and-pinion steering with its variable transmission ratio guarantees outstanding agility on winding roads and, at the same time, excellent driving stability at very high speeds. And now the steering wheel is adjustable not only for reach, but also for height (by 40 millimetres or 1.57"), offering the driver an even more individual seating position.
Modified brakes – for the first time also available with ceramic brake discs

The brake system has also been upgraded to match the car's even higher standard of performance, now responding even more quickly thanks to the upgraded and even more effective brake servo. Diameter of the brake discs which are cross drilled and inner-vented on all models is 299 millimetres or 11.77" at the rear and 298 millimetres or 11.73" at the front on the Boxster as opposed to 318 millimetres or 12.52" at the front on the Boxster S.

Even larger (350 millimetres/13.78") but lighter discs are available as an option on the Boxster S coming for the first time with optional PCCB Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes. Apart from their extra grip, these very special brakes are absolutely rust-proof and are subject to far less wear in regular driving conditions, while at the same time offering a very high and, in particular, consistent frictional coefficient.

Now fitted as standard, PSM Porsche Stability Management enhances active safety to an even higher level in applying the brakes, in accelerating, and in bends. As a result, this modified system allows an even more sporting and dynamic style of motoring with even more sensitive control.
The world's first roadster with a head airbag

The Porsche Boxster is the first roadster in the world to protect the driver and his passenger against collisions from the side by means of a head airbag. Combined with a thorax airbag housed on the outer side of the seat backrest, the airbag comes out of the doorsill whenever required and ensures a very high standard of safety around the head area also in an open car.
New interior with unique seats

The interior is also brand-new in design, enhanced ergonomically to an even higher standard. New materials in slush technology, leather and aluminium look create a very sophisticated, high-quality feel inside the car. The seats themselves are brand-new, offering the customer a choice of four different variants ranging from the standard seats through the electrically adjustable seats complete with a lumbar support and the leather sports seats all the way to the adaptive sports seats offering individual adjustment of the side supports on the seat bottom and backrest. Indeed, this range of seats is quite unique in the Boxster segment.
Cost of ownership reduced once again

Compared with the former models, the new Boxster and Boxster S offer even lower cost of ownership, with the cost of maintenance, fuel consumption and insurance, as well as road tax, down by 13 per cent. This calculation is based on a period of four years with annual mileage of 15,000 km or 9,300 miles, applying prices and rates in the German market.

Fresh Wind in the Roadster Segment

Eight years after its first appearance, the Boxster is now entering its second generation - and in the process it is becoming even more dynamic, more sporting, more self-confident. Indeed, this is no surprise considering that almost 80 per cent of all parts and components on the new Boxster model series are new: Larger wheels and a wider track clearly symbolise the increase in power and performance. The 2.7-litre six-cylinder featured in the Boxster now develops maximum output of 176 kW (240 bhp), 8 kW (12 bhp) more than before. Maximum output of the Boxster S, in turn, with engine capacity remaining unchanged at 3.2 litres, is now up from 191 kW (260 bhp) to 206 kW (280 bhp). Acceleration from 0 - 100 km/h in the Boxster now comes in 6.2 seconds, the Boxster S completing the same exercise in 5.5 seconds. This extra power, combined with enhanced aerodynamics and improved streamlining, provides a higher top speed on even less fuel, the Boxster now reaching a maximum speed of 256 km/h or 159 mph on composite fuel consumption in the EU cycle of 9.6 litres/100 km premium plus (29.4 mpg Imp). Top speed of the Boxster S, by comparison, is 268 km/h or 166 mph on average fuel consumption of 10.4 litres, equal to 27.1 mpg Imp. And it almost goes without saying that both models outperform the EU4 and LEV II (USA) emission standards.

This enhanced performance clearly means even more driving pleasure on the road. Not only the wider track up by 24 - 35 millimetres (0.94 - 1.38.") depending on the combination of wheels and tyres, but also the larger wheels on both the Boxster and Boxster S as well as the improvement of torsional and flexural stiffness, power steering with a variable transmission ratio, an even shorter and crisper gearshift, and, not least, all-new seats with enhanced side support all contribute to this improvement of driving pleasure. Active safety, in turn, is enhanced by an optimised brake system and PSM Porsche Stability Management now featured as standard and serving, inter alia, to re-stabilise the car on under- or oversteer by applying the brakes specifically on individual wheels and intervening in the engine management system.

The higher level of standard equipment - including, inter alia, larger wheels, PSM, air conditioning, a CD-radio, and an on-board computer - does not mean a higher price. On the contrary: Taking the level of equipment into account, the new models come at a price down by six per cent (Boxster S) and, respectively, even nine per cent (Boxster) versus their predecessors.
