Alfa Romeo Announces C8 Competizione GT2 for 2008

There is probably no car manufacturer more involved in silly-season rumors this year than Alfa Romeo. While the motorsport world is still discussing if the traditional Italian make will join the WTCC or the DTM in 2007, the company announced a sports car programme starting 2008. According to the news agency ANSA, Alfa’s Antonio Barravalle revealed details on the GT2 programme at the Bologna Motor Show.

The Alfa C8 roadcar will be powered by a 450 hp V8-engine. 500 units will be sold as homoglation-base for the upcoming Competizione GT2 race car. The racing programme will include prestigious events such as 24 hours of Le Mans & the Nürburgring 24 Hour race. Further details such as technical specs are not yet available due to the programme’s very early stage.

Now the question is which team is going to run it.

Prodrive anyone? They seem to be the best in the business at the moment.

If you're thinking about about the small british-based tuning company, I doubt it. If you meant Autodelta as in N-Technology (the people who ran works Alfas in WTCC), Fiat has recently broken links with them.

I vote for either a works effort, or maybe the teams who used Maseratis will now switch to Alfa Romeos. All in all those are good news, and this means that there will be no factory Alfas in 2007 WTCC.

Oh god. An 8C with racing livery and body modifications. Sperm everywhere.

Can't wait to see it. (If it exists, that is. Sounds a bit unlikely)
