original an old Irish folksong I think, then Thin Lizzy covered it in the '70s
but the best version did Metallica, it's a great song

Yeah Metallica's Whiskey in the Jar is great, I guess it's technically a cover even though like all those old drinking songs no two recordings of it are alike. They didn't do "Tuesday's Gone" half bad, either.
One of my favorites is the Goldfinger ska cover of 99 Luftballoons. The Smashmouth cover of I'm a Believer is a lot better than the "original" Monkees version (nothing they ever did was truly original)

- "I Shot the Sherrif" - originally by Bob Marley, redone by Eric Clapton
- "99 Red Baloons" - not sure who did it originally, but redone by both Goldfinger and AFI

Crossroads done by Cream is great, but Robert Johnsons original is just incredible.

Hendrix does a pretty good version of Sunshine of your love aswell.

There are more, but yeah... I have nothing against covers as long as they're done well. And Hendrix's covers are the best quality you can get.

Ram Jam's one is actually a cover as well, it was written by Leadbelly in the '20's or 30s.

Any of the traditional folk tunes the Dropkick Murphy's play are great, Less Than Jake's takes on We Go Together fropm Grease and We're Not Gonna Take It are awesome, the Offsprings cover of AFI's Totalimmortal is very good, Area 7 has recorded covers of I Want To Break Free and Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again (No way, get ****ed, **** off). One of the best cover's I've heard is Bodyjar's cover of Hazy Shade of Winter. As for kick arse ska covers, you canb't go past Save Ferris doing Come on Eileen and of course RBF doing Take on Me. And for live covers, download Pennywise cover Blitzgreig Bop off their website, The Living End play Tainted Love live all the time and a band I saw on saturday night called Unpaid Debt did an f'ing rocking cover of Ruby Soho
