Tesla Roadster, Incredible Electric Car (Coming very soon)

The upcoming Tesla Roadster looks pretty damn cool. It's based on an Elise chassis and uses many Lotus components.

It will use lithium-ion batteries, allowing for roughly 400km per charge, which is remarkable for an electric vehicle. A specially-developed motor produces 250hp (roughly 190kw) at 13,500rpm, and masses of torque from zero rpm. This results in a 0-60 time of 4 seconds flat. Top speed will be around 210km/h.

The best part, of course, is not paying for gas - The emissions will vary from location to location, based on where your power comes from, but even if it comes from gas or coal power plants it is above and beyond the efficiency of a standard car, let alone one in its performance range.

It will be officially "revealed" on its website in a few hours, although a few photos have been released.

Looks pretty sweet too. I'm really liking this car, extremely impressive.

Edit: Forgot the website URL, duh

That looks awesome! Like an Elise rear-ended an S7. I'd much prefer this to a Prius

I only got flashbacks from my physics lessons in school...

I kinda wonder what this will sound like. A high pitch buzz or almost nothing or what.

For the moment, electric cars and hybrids are really only good as city cars. That said, 250 miles is more than enough range for a few good blasts along the Cotter

First company to realise that because a car's electic, it doesn't mean you have to make it out of melted crisp packets, or whatever is considered eco-friendly nowadays.

Well, actually this is not the first electric powered sports car to hit the market place. The first one I remember is the Venturi Fetish. It is also using an Elise chassis. As far as I remember the Fetish's problem was that it had a small range (about 100 miles if my mmory serves me correctly) and that it was very expensive.

From what I can judge, the Tesla is using a better electric motor than the Fetish, since it has such a superior range. Does this mean a higher price than the Fetish? I guess we will know after the official unveiling akes place.

I must say, though that the idea of an electic sports car is very tempting. 13,500 rpm from an engine making "that" sound and not having to pay for petrol. The acceleratio is gobsmacking at any speed...

This car is awesome, Lotus handling and 250hp from an electric motor.

I wonder if the battery life drops from 400km if you beat this thing around a track, or if a track is what its based on.

The Fetish never hit the market place.

And recent advancments in electric motors have made them far cheaper to produce, so it'll be cheaper than the Fetish.
