CVT? I've read a four speed manual.

Visca Catalunya!
With these cars, more Indians will be taking our oil.
Not fair.
Just kidding. Actually, it would really benefit America if we all switched to more efficient cars.
Nothing like giving the people renown as the world's worst drivers there own car.
It has been long since a new car on the market had a 4-speed manual, though. I can't imagine a 5-speed would've made the car much more expensive and with 30bhp you need every bit of help. In fact maybe the CVT would actually be better choice in this case.
No this one though. It doesn't seem to be an excellent car to say the least.

no air con, no power steering, no stereo...
no wonder its cheap...
Meets all safety requirements
The People's Car's safety performance exceeds current regulatory requirements. With an all sheet-metal body, it has a strong passenger compartment, with safety features such as crumple zones, intrusion-resistant doors, seat belts, strong seats and anchorages, and the rear tailgate glass bonded to the body. Tubeless tyres further enhance safety
Since when are seat belts considered a "feature" ? thats like saying it comes with great luxuries like carpet!

The Datto will rage again...
I mean at 2,500 who can complain, that buys you nothing these days, or something...that'll cost you twice as much as that tag in maintenance.
Just don't go testing 0-100 times...reminds me of a smart, only at least this one's price tag is an actual reflection of the car you get. :P

I wouldn't like to be in that in a crash. In a frontal crash, theres not much between the front and your legs, then in a rear crash not much between your back and the back of the vehicle. Sketchy.
In the past two weeks, we've gotten about a dozen totals towed in from the area, most much better vehicles than this, and I just couldn't see this car and occupants surviving what those cars went through(for example a ford escape, the roof got crushed down to the seats from flipping over onto a guard rail, and the doors still work )
Are india crash standards the same as the US standards?

No aircon....in an Indian car?!?! isn't it like....WARM there?!!!
Its warm here too, yet even $34,000 spent towards the best-selling VE Holden Commodore (Omega) doesn't get you airco as standard. That requires another $2,000, which itself works out at 80% of the cost for an entire brand-new car - eg this incredibly affordable new Tata Nano
For those of us fortunate enough to live in the wealthy West its all to easy to mock and criticize. But I bet average Indian motorists who currently risk their family's life by ferrying them around on the back end of an unsafe, fume-spewing motorbike will feel more than a little grateful to Mr Tata and his amazing achievement
Does it come with a rock?
